Prediction — virtual only meets. No spectators. One timer per lane with order of finish as backup. And the public pools will not be allowed to run a season.
There would be very little reason to do summer swim then. And club swimmers will probably opt out if they can have real meets elsewhere. Swimming against someone makes for improvements.
Agree with you that there is little point in doing swim season with virtual meets. The whole point of summer swimming, IMO, is the team aspects. Cheering on your teammates, yelling at the 8U anchor legs at the end of the meet to make up the difference, pep rallies, etc.. Take away all that and replace it with time trials every week, what’s the point? Just cancel it again.

As much as I wish this prediction wasn’t accurate, I think you’re right. Has there been any discussion of whether there will still be A and B meets, even if they are virtual, or are they only going to be doing A meets?

Not in Montgomery County.
However our county leader is so conservative about covid restrictions he would probably ban pool touch pads on account of not wanting multiple people to touch the same surface.![]()
Ugh. Beyond bad. Chlorine kills germs. Geez.
Please, for the love of God, stop repeating this. Surfaces don’t matter and the chlorine is in the water, not the air (where your nose and mouth are 90% of the time in a public pool).

But Elrich and co are mental so who knows.
They did, and MCSL has gotten similar allowances for practices. For meets, I don’t think PVS has run any meets in MoCo.
Agree Elrich is loco
This. PVS clubs in MD have run meets at the VA pools but we cannot run anything bigger than a small intramural meet here.
And it’s pretty clear at this point that Elrich has something against swimming specifically.
And btw, I see (well known MCPS school) boys lax captains practice daily at a local park. With basically no controls to limit transmission.

Hard to imagine how a meet could be held with the distancing requirements, and hard to believe the county refs would specifically prohibit meets but then whole leagues would be exempted by obtaining a “letter of approval.”
6 ft apart outside at a pool during the summer when most adults will have been vaccinated, but the CDC says unvaccinated kids can be 3 ft apart inside at school. Makes total sense 🙄
Unless Virginia changes things, I expect 10’ apart outside unless with family and masks on deck.
