Subject: Is Notre Dame screwing up?
Please tell us how many college students, professors and faculty are in the hospitals. Not 80+ year old retirement home residents.

It’s not hysteria. If 2000 kids test positive, and they each had just one roommate, that’s 2000 more kids who have to quarantine for two weeks and and can’t go to class. But there is no way ND can contract trace 2000 people. So those 2000 infected people come into contact with healthcare workers, custodians, Uber drivers, cafeteria workers, pharmacy clerks, and lots of other unsuspecting students. How do you think this virus spreads? How do you think 170000 people have died? 2000 becomes 4000 becomes 8000 and some of those people are going to get very sick, and some will die. The fact you can’t understand this basic truth is so unbelievable. This is what we know will happen because we are seeing it playing out before our eyes in real time.
OMG!!! All the hospitals in South Bend -- Memorial, Epworth, and St Joseph's Regional -- must be overrun with dying patients, right??!!!
Oh wait... there's nobody in their hospitals for Corona.
There are currently 39 COVID patients in South Bend area hospitals.

Sweetheart, no one is getting covid in a classroom with a mask on, seated six feet away from other students. These outbreaks are 100% a dorm issue. Nothing short of vacating the dorms is going to make a difference at any school.
Sweetheart, students sitting in a poorly ventilated classroom for an hour at a time, walking next to each other to get into and out of classrooms, not always wearing masks correctly, wearing bandanas or neck gaiters, touching their faces, their desks, and doors, are certainly at risk for transmitting and catching coronavirus.
It is not just a dorm issue, it is an issue of having thousands of 20 year olds on a campus for hours at a time with little enforcement of optimal health guidelines.
Agree. Even if parties are the main problem at this point, the classroom risk is real.
This is from my alma mater, and it seems like a well thought out approach to in person learning. I’m curious to see how things go. Of course this is also law school and not undergraduates. I have no idea how undergrad is handling it, but I bet it doesn’t involve plexiglass dividers and university-provided sanitizing wipes.

I suspect there is some pushback from residential life staff when these outbreaks get larger than a handful of students.
University Health Services exists, and they are able to conduct testing and maybe have a nurse staff a phone line students call for advice. But it is probably falling to res life to find ways to get meals to quarantined and isolated students. And they are having to deal with tons of questions about logistical concerns. If every day there are 100+ new cases that's a LOT of extra work for residential life to be dealing with right around the start of the school year, when their other work requirements haven't gone away. I highly doubt and extra 20 residential life employees were hired in anticipation of the extra workload.

By the way - everyone who gets covid - even those who are asymptomatic - will need to be checked for heart and lung defects. Heart defects appear to be common even with young people - that is what got the Georgia State quarterback.
PP was referring to cases in a hospital, not asymptomatic.
