+1 people cannot even read his second paragraph “ You’ll get no presumption of expertise here. This is how I am looking at and considering this issue and the positions people have taken in my feed and in the hundred or so FCPS discussion groups that have popped up.” states he is NOT an expert, this is his opinion. Make your own choice from YOUR opinion. Neither option is a good choice. Both options are going to have issues. You need to make the best choice for your family. If you are reading that there is evidence that this virus is not spread by children, find that evidence from a reputable scientific publication citing research done in the US. Make sure this finding is not just a “hint” of evidence. Do your research properly.Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:SURPRISE, SURPRISE JOE MORICE WORKS FOR THE NATIONAL EDUCATION ASSOCIATION

So what? He shared his opinion, he’s not claiming to be all knowing or an expert. It’s interesting that people are complaining about him so much for being melodramatic while avoiding some of the undisputed points he makes. The number of deaths v flu deaths for an example 🙄

Two kids in one county have come down with MIS-C the multi system failure disorder that kids get something after exposure
11,000 kids in Florida have tested positive. Deaths are harder to track as some counties are misreporting. Some places have seen a 500% spiked in "pneumonia" cases in the last month........ So n COVID deaths are being coded as other diseases.
Any deaths?

Softball is outside- yes, it’s different. It’s also for a short period of time with little close contact. And with other adults who have been minimizing their exposure. Do you really not see how that’s different from kids at school, inside, for hours everyday?

Schools aren’t saaaaaaaafe! Anyway here’s 50 pictures of me at my mom’s friend’s dog’s wedding. It was fine because we only had 50 people there which is way under the gathering limit for Phase 3.

That's fine. You don't need to justify yourself to me. But the "will be better than DL" is questionable. That is according to FCPS teachers and administrators I have talked to in person. They say it won't resemble anything like a regular school experience. No collaboration. Limited class interaction. Masks. No lockers. No sitting with whoever at lunch. You'll be with the same 10-15 kids for core classes and lunch. And there will be tons of policing of social distancing rules.
I get that it may be something, but better than DL is subjective. And I would argue, wrong.

Virginia General Assembly finally passed legislation on 'collective bargaining'. Wonder if its implementation was moved a few weeks ago from 1-1-2021 to May 2021 to ensure a full school year without a 'collective action'? Union! Onward!Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:I think a region-wide, if not national, teachers strike is coming.
Yeah, that’s not happening, at least in Virginia. It’s a right to work state.
And that's why there is the 'I"- Individual - in 'IEP'. There will be sped teachers/therapists and gen eds who opt to be in the buildings or who will go out on home visits or who will push their school system's Director of Special Ed/Services for local interagency agreements and memo of understanding to get collaborative support from Health Depts, local Community Services Bd, Social Services and the Disability Resource Center and the private contractors, ABA, PTs, SLPs, OTs.Anonymous wrote:I hate this post. I work in a clinic and no one seems to care anymore about the risks my colleagues and I have taken, nor about what’s happening to our kids.
For the people saying “well if you have to send your kid then just send them” after saying “PEOPLE ARE GOING TO DIE!!!”—think about what you’re saying here! Because the PP’s kid has a disability, or because a kid has parents working in restaurants or hospitals, our kids get to be the guinea pigs for this plan? How incredibly cruel.
And yes, there is actual science to refute the OP’s cited numbers. Yes, he is incredibly privileged to have a choice, not that he acknowledges this at any time in his post. And yes, my kids and the kids of all the ICU and ER nurses and doctors I know are going back into the classroom this fall, because we don’t have an alternative and no one has cared to offer us one.
Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:I'll leave all of you geniuses to haggle over the science and safety issues. But most people I know who are sending their kids to school are doing so for "socialization" reasons. And his point about socialization is spot on.
If you or your kids think they are going to receive anything close to a normal school day with peer interaction, it is not happening.
I am sending my kids to school for socialization reasons. It won't be like previous school years but it will be better than DL.
Some kids may have handled the isolation just fine. Mine have not. There's no real question. If the schools are open, for 2 days or 1 day or a half day, my kids will be there.
Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:OP doesn't realize that his/her kids will be behind those who can afford private tutor, John Hopkins online courses, or private schools. FCPS highschoolers will be competing for college spots against out of state students where schools remain opened. I am fine with that, the more stupid kids around, the better mine kids will do.
It's sad that you think your kid can only do well if other kids aren't able to get a good education due to the pandemic.
