Two of my three kids play college sports at a SLAC. Maybe even a worthless one in your opinion but they love it, it makes their whole college experience better, and there is much to be learned from being on a team at many levels. If you don’t get it, you don’t get it. I don’t think OP has ever been on a team, hence the unbelievably self centered perspective on other people’s kids.

It isn’t necessarily bragging. Some parents are proud of their child for many different things and they want to share it. I see dance recital pictures, poms performances, music performances, artwork, poetry, and lately their kids sewing face masks, baking cookies, whatever. I am happy when my friends post about their kids every once in a while. Nothing wrong with it. Let parents be proud.

Wow, not a character trait among that "secret sauce" list. All surface qualities.

I so hope my kid brings more than that to the table by the time he becomes a contributing member of society.

This may come as a shock to you but there are plenty of sporty, fit, charming, and attractive kids... who are ALSO academic overachievers! Shocking, right. The dull college athletes end up selling insurance or becoming real estate agents.

All LACs give good merit aid as the high tuition rate is fake and the steep discount is a bribe to lure kids to go there over a college with more resources, name rec and a higher powered network. I don't know about y'all but I'd be pretty bummed out if nobody had ever heard of my alma mater... and then X amount of years after graduating, the college no longer existed.

Most SLACs are "in the middle of nowhere". For some that is part of the appeal. Even if some don't like that aspect, being in the middle of nowhere adds to the intensity of relationships and forces many to socialize with folks they might never have given a second thought to in a large university or school in the middle of a city.

Definitely tell us about how you researched graduation rates and credit rating of colleges after you saw a FB post. Also, how long after the post did you do this research? How did you decide which things to research first?
