She’s not that new. Been in Arlington going on 5 years. She’s done a lot in those years and I look forward to what else she will do. It seems she reviews both the county and school budgets (poor thing) and sits on a third commission. Katie Cristol was elected to county board at 28 or 29 and is doing a fine job. I think Cristina will also do great.

Well Katie Cristol is doing a "fine job" if you don't like schools. Some of us will never forgive her for the "if I had a million dollars, I wouldn't give a penny to the schools" comment.

I guess we should assume Cristina feels the same way.

It's seriously concerning how everything said about her is an exaggeration. Exaggerating her time in Arlington, her teaching experience, her policy role ...

I think it's because you can't throw a stick in Arlington without hitting a 20-something consultant who thinks they are all that ...

Me? I'm just a curmudgeon in my 40's who was also once a 20-something who thought I was smarter than I really was.

I have my concerns about Cristina but this is a solid argument in her favor. How many times (including this year) have we seen people get into this because they’re upset about their kid’s school/boundary/community/condition/insert other kid-specific issue here. That’s not how leaders of a system of almost 30,000 students should be motivated.

Get into what, exactly?

The school board race.

She lived in NV until June 2016 and then first worked in DC in Sept 2016, according to linked in. How could she have been in Arlington for 5 years? You campaign staffers should really get your facts straight about your own candidate.

Every candidate needs an accessory kid so he or she can “point to the future”?

Completely objective ... except for needing to toe the party line and continue to suck up to the ACDC. She's a party cheerleader.

Also Katie Cristol is a terrible board member. She has no basis in reality for her decisions either.

So I'll pass, thanks, Cristina campaign people.

Just what we need, a single issue grudge candidate. If the Key move happens it will be final before this guy takes office. So then what of his tenure?

At least he has kids in APS and is motivated by his interest in our schools, not a political career. None of the candidates are perfect, but so far Cristina is the only one to have no legitimate connection to our schools and it’s disgraceful that she’s being endorsed by the Arlington democrats. I’d rather a bunch of pissed off parents at the helm than someone without a vested interest in the day to day realities of our schools.

That’s a really dumb remark.

Sorry, but to me, a "social justice warrior" has a perspective beyond his own immediate community. If he's mad about Key immersion being moved, he does not have a social justice warrior perspective.

Sandy's website is rough, but she's also a teacher and not politically saavy with the weight of the ACDC behind her. Personally, I like the idea of a recent APS high school teacher on the School Board. I think we need that perspective, especially as we transition to a new superintendent and figure out next steps for whatever they do at the Career Center. She's got my vote. Not sure who has my other one yet.

She brings a perspective of reality - what it takes to actually implement an initiative from the teacher perspective; the teacher training needed before implementing initiatives for them to be successful. She believes iPads have no place in schools - that alone gets her my vote! Please be clear, that doesn't mean she's against technology in schools. She's in the technology part of APS, for cryin' out loud. But she brings a different and better perspective than is currently represented on the board.
