I don't understand how people let themselves get to such a size but yes, I also think this lady shouldn't have made a scene.
Why did you feel compelled to share that you are Asian? Do you have a weight bias against non-Asians? Fat Asians do exist, pp.
If pp is 115 lbs and 4’11”, then she is fat. Someone under 5 feet should not weigh more than 100 lbs.

Read the thread. Buying an extra seat doesn’t work since the airlines just take it back.

And the middle woman clearly had no idea she was allowed to move. And she only referred to them as pigs when SHE was getting abused because of the situation. Previously she’d just called them “big” and said she didn’t fit there.
I actually feel really bad for her.
I would not be inclined to make an effort to help someone speaking to and about me in that way. Let's not pretend she started polite. Someone who calls someone and loudly insults the people next to her did not start off polite.
The fat one just sat there not even remotely alarmed or concerned as the woman was forced to squeeze in there, just continued to stuff her face.
She had the chance to show concern and try to help the woman but clearly was not interested in doing that.

They are supposed to wait until all paying customers have been seated but they don't. In fact they often take the best seats and any leftovers in first class.
I was assigned a seat between two obese passengers and refused. I told flight attendants to move a non rev. passenger and they did. She opted to wait for another flight.
Family doesn’t fly for free. Reduced, yes but not for free. And they are always seated last.

The couple clearly didn't purchase additional seats because they were in a 3 seat row. Why didn't United address this at the gate before everyone boarded and follow their own policy?
United -
If you can’t buckle your seatbelt (with an extension if necessary) and fit into a seat with the armrests down — and without encroaching “significantly” on the adjacent space — you must purchase an additional seat or pay for an upgrade to a roomier seat on United. The carrier recommends buying two seats at the time of booking, at which time you’ll pay the same fare for the second seat; if you wait until the day of travel, you’ll pay the fare available that day. If no additional seats or upgrades are available, you’ll have to rebook on the next flight with availability. (United will waive change fees.)
Wow! This!
They had a specific policy that was clearly and objectively violated. Wonder if the woman can sue the airline now? Since they made her look bad but she should never have been put in that situation if they’d just followed their own policy?
