Apart from a new building, there's nothing strong about that school. By virtually every metric it would be in the bottom five in NoVa.
That doesn't mean anything. It's a good school and plenty of middle class parents are choosing it for their kids. Those numbers will only continue to rise as millenials decide to settle in south Arlington. They aren't as skittish about minorities. Unlike Annadale, Lee, and Stuart, Wakefiled's demographics have held steady. We will see it trend more like W-L over the next 15 years.

It won't have enough space, really, but it's not a crazy position. It would be better to build a 4th high school straddling north and south, like WL, but where is the land for that?
Seriously
The VHC PARCEL! it is like smack dab in the middle. Putting a 9th grade academy there would be a huge wasted opportunity.

The PTA survey my family filled out explained that W-L could grow to that size again, as one of the options. But to do so would require building an addition. The current 9th grade small communities could be located in the addition.
This plan has nothing to do with being selfish. Like at W-L, both Yorktown and Wakefield will undergo interior renovations to increase capacity. And boundary changes are necessary.

Plenty of people are talking up this stupid 9th grade academy idea. They are so terrified of being zoned away from W-L.
This county is full selfish assholes.
