Yes Admissions Directors talk and Holton wants to be first choice. If they realized they are not, ahold on is the type of school that would reject the, before they reject you.


This and also that the rising 9th grade at Holton is HUGE. They have 86 girls currently, which is a lot larger than most of the high school classes. They didn't expect so many to accept their offer of admission in 7th two years ago, I'm guessing, so now they need to right-size the class and didn't take a lot of kids. The school has a limit on the overall number of girls they can have in the building (fire codes) and the current senior class is very small so once they're gone there isn't another small class to offset this.

Finally heard from Friends Community School. WL for non-entry year.
Not entirely surprising and we have other options, but this is the one we wanted and it would have saved us serious money over time.

My reject letter came today (2nd time in a row we are done thankfully DC got accepted at a Big 3) .. Sorry but yours is probably in snail mail

Page 16 here - fun fact, there are 100 counties in the United States with a median income below $26,400 per year, yet many on here will pay more than that per year for their 6th grader to go to one of these schools. No wonder America is sick of DC!

I am sorry. I see on another thread that this is an issue with GDS this year as well (emailed acceptances, snail mailed rejections).

We went through the admissions process for our child last year, and we noticed that this year, some schools are avoiding this issue by posting all results on the portal (sometimes with additional contact by phone, email, or snail mail to admitted families). Hopefully, more schools will adopt this approach in the future.

In at St Andrews and Burke; WL at Field. Overall very happy! Field was 3rd choice for DC so he is philosophical about it.

I still haven't heard from Holton. I know the reject letter is in the mail but this is bad. Why can't they email all applicants?

IT DOESN'T REALLY MATTER. Some people can't afford anything. Be grateful!


It doesn't really matter...and yet it does. Or you would keep your kid in Mo. Co. Public, right? It's kinda like being in a sorority in college...nobody cares which one your in when you go home for the summer or visit a school without them (and especially once you graduate). But it sure is good to be in the best one while you're there I think 99% of these folks are grateful, but they are like all of us. We want "the best" for our kids and despite not necessarily knowing what that is, we want to strive for it. That's all...it's pretty simple and pure. I don't think there's anything sinister and it's fairly common to get worked up over your kid whether you got rejected from Andover in "New England" or the football team in Topeka...it's all the same shit. And as women, we like to hash through it over and over and then you have 17 pages. Basic math 101 that I learned in my public and private education.


I think a lot of people also want the bumper sticker/magnet for the car. The bolded above seems to apply to the parents more than the kids.

Maybe PP has siblings at the other schools, or some other connection? I wouldn't be surprised if some schools WL students that are strongly connected to other schools, even if those students are otherwise well qualified.
