Why didn't he just move in-bounds for Powell instead of jumping ship/shark for Hearst/WOTP?

There are newsy blogs, and Popville is one. If however, you cannot tell the difference between PopVille, and say, WTOP, I think the issue is not Silvermans.
It is also bizarre that people get bent out of shape on neighborhood names.
First world problems.
Is it more bizarre that residents get protective of their neighborhood's image or that a blogger from a different neighborhood goes through the trouble of deleting comments that disagree with him on it? Isn't the blog itself pretty much all first world problems? Restaurant scuttlebutt and tap takeovers?

Super-anal mods deserve all the flack they get, as they are not really moderating, but controlling. In comparison, Jeff steps in, reminds the jerks they are being a-holes, which has the effect of moderating the a-holery of the jerks, without actually deleting them. That's what a REAL mod does, especially one who cares about freedom of expression and appreciates an open forum.
The long running series of complaints here, including the discussion of "freedom of expression" is not tweaking. Tweaking would be quick, and it would be funny. The complaints here are neither.
By the way, I do not think you understand how freedom of expression works. It means that JS, DS, you, me, anyone has the right to start their own blog and moderate however they want - anally, reasonably, free for all, or whatever. The BLOG is the expression, and the choice to even allow comments, is just that, the blogger's choice.
BTW, this place frequently has good threads fall apart into assholery, on a range of subjects. I do not complain, because, once again, it is Jeff's blog, to do as he likes with.
The issue is that Popville has grown beyond a personal blog. He categorizes the site as "News" on its Facebook page. More Fox news than news. More emperor than "formerly prince". See the discussion comments here for example: http://parkviewdc.com/2015/04/24/new-tavern-coming-to-park-view/ What they're talking about isn't moderation. DS wants the new bar to be in Petworth, and proclaims "I've always called it Petworth!" A few Park View resident commenters (and wikipedia), say it's in Park View (so is Bruce Monroe!). When called out on his systematic comments deletion, he grumbles "whatever dude, keep fighting the good fight, I've been criticized for as long as I've had the blog on how I run it". (paraphrased). And closes a comments section rather than have to moderate a potential onslaught of commenters saying the same thing that he doesn't want to see. That just doesn't sound very reasonable, ethical, fair. Granted, it's somewhat of a petty issue. But it shows values.

It's rumored that Hearst is getting PK3.

Ergo, he moved because he didn't want to send his children to Bruce Monroe.
What's wrong with one of several accessible Charters? Plenty of people go to charters and are happy.
