Because Hearst is a great school and a very pretty neighborhood in the streets around it, with some nice homes. With access to metro, shopping, parks, pool. And they might want a good middle and high school? Because people can do whatever they like?

Is it more bizarre that residents get protective of their neighborhood's image or that a blogger from a different neighborhood goes through the trouble of deleting comments that disagree with him on it? Isn't the blog itself pretty much all first world problems? Restaurant scuttlebutt and tap takeovers?


I wouldn't delete such comments if I were running a blog. He did, for whateever unexplained reason. But the folks are not really protecting the neighborhood, image, just arguing about the name. And treating a blog that covers restaurant scuttlebutt and tap takeovers like it was CNN. And indeed, coming over here to complain about DS.

You don't like his blog, don't read it. You don't like his comments policy, don't comment. You think alternate sources of info are needed in DC, support one of the many alternate sources of info.

His "journalism" skills, while weak, have improved some over the years. I remember a post where he wrote (titled in the post) about "Potbelly's." When it was pointed out that he was spelling the name of the business incorrectly, and that it was actually "Potbelly," he argued that it was what he liked to call it, so he wouldn't correct it.

Once his focus shifted to making a living from the blog, at least that level of unprofessionalism was corrected.

The issue is that Popville has grown beyond a personal blog. He categorizes the site as "News" on its Facebook page. More Fox news than news. More emperor than "formerly prince". See the discussion comments here for example: http://parkviewdc.com/2015/04/24/new-tavern-coming-to-park-view/ What they're talking about isn't moderation. DS wants the new bar to be in Petworth, and proclaims "I've always called it Petworth!" A few Park View resident commenters (and wikipedia), say it's in Park View (so is Bruce Monroe!). When called out on his systematic comments deletion, he grumbles "whatever dude, keep fighting the good fight, I've been criticized for as long as I've had the blog on how I run it". (paraphrased). And closes a comments section rather than have to moderate a potential onslaught of commenters saying the same thing that he doesn't want to see. That just doesn't sound very reasonable, ethical, fair. Granted, it's somewhat of a petty issue. But it shows values.


DS is a piece of work. Thanks for sharing. What gives? I have so many questions, but it's so not worth it based on his views and logic. Why claim another "hood", when it's not yours. Strange

Yeah well we are at Hearst and I wouldn't hold my breath on that one. I certainly wouldn't leave a beloved neighborhood based on rumor alone.

And it's not like his kid is going to Hearst this fall. She can't start there for another two years. So obviously there was more to their decision than just schools alone. He could have waited at least another year if he really wanted to.

You do know that charters are lottery right? Its not choice its luck. LOTS of Petworth parents wants creative minds. Is in hundreds and hundreds on a waitlist want it. They aren't getting it.
