Professor of Helminthology here. The mouth thing is unfortunately very real. It happens most frequently in your sleep, within a few hours of taking the medication.
We usually recommend your spouse stay awake next to you with a pair of chopsticks to grab the worm and pull it out, in case it changes its mind. Please don't use tweezers, as this can bisect the worm, making it very hard, and unpleasant, to remove the rest of the beast.

The mouth is actually not the worst-case scenario: occasionally they will try to emerge from a man's penis, a singularly unpleasant experience given their barbs.

Meh, they're pinworms. You won't die. Very common and easily treated. They are active at night, so disrupted sleep in a child is your first clue!

I posted on this thread a couple of years ago. I struggled reallly badly with this. Nothing worked. Doctors thought I was crazy. I came up with a simple solution. I used simple miccelear water makeup remover wipes on my butt every morning when I woke up. I figured if they could clean Waterproof mascara off then they could clean sticky pinworm eggs off too. Has to be miccelear water wipes bc won’t irritate You butt further. It took a while to work, but it finally did. No meds totally got the job done for me. No explanation for why meds didn’t work.

This is very real. My grandmother had a worm crawl out of her mouth and get stuck between her teeth, We pulled it out because it was pretty skinny and we thought it was a thread., No it was round worm. She did not even take any meds. She was that infested. This was a rural area in India.
