We actually toured one club that we decided not to join because for years they had only admitted Jewish people. We didn't feel that it was a good fit for us.
You can't discriminate against people who don't apply. Did you ever consider that AA's are a minority at clubs because very few AA's PLAY golf?

I mean, is the NBA racist because its overwhelmingly one color?
Maybe you can get involved with a program like The First Tee and help young minorities pick up the game rather than ranting about country clubs.
I don't think anyone on here is anti-clubs. They are replying to the op about a particular club and answering her/his question candidly. All clubs don't discriminate but the one op asked about has a history of doing so and apparently according to some they are still doing it but more secretly. Instead of being on here and being so defensive why don't you go play some golf?
Have you read the thread? There is a loud and vocal contingent who is very anti-club.
NP. There is a crowd of anti-cc people. I am one. My parents are members and I grew up in one. I hate them and think less of people who join them.
You were at a subpar club and didn't do the sports? Anyone in a nice club with fine dining and great tennis/golf/swimming appreciates and enjoys the experience. How can you not? I think you haven't really experienced it at a nice place.

Isn't everyone a guest? Or is it British style and some people lodge there? The changing room, even without the mess on the floor, was dingy and damp. I would want it dry with fluffy towels, perhaps an attendant, fresh paint. Don't people pay A LOT?
You're obviously not a wasp. An attendant standing by while I dry my hair sounds like nouveau-riche, gaudy hell. Like something out of a Jackie Collins novel.
+1. And then you leave a diamond earring on her attendant tray and say "these have always brought me luck."

Which locker room were you in? The spa like one does exist but maybe you shouldn't have access. Do your hosts a favor and tell them you are too good to be a guest at their club and not to invite you again.

Anonymous wrote:Comments that Chevy Chase Club actively discriminates against against Jews or any other religious group OR that it blackballs anyone are both ill-informed and ridiculous. I am a member at Chevy Chase, and I can tell you that we have numerous Jewish members AND that votes by the Board on prospective members are by a simple majority ---- NO blackballing. Moreover, the idea that most of the members there are necessarily Republicans or conservatives is silly. I have no idea what party most of my friends at the Club are, but I do know that "liberal" ideas are freely expressed by many of the members, along with conservative ideas --- just as is true in society here at large.

Otherwise they blackball Jewish families. This is no secret. In fact one member told my Jewish friend she may like Woodmont better. This is true and well known.
The worst part it is done behind closed doors (or at least they think they are closed). That's the thing about leaks - they always come out.
Yes the "off the record" blackballing that happens so there is no paper trail. I bet if one sued over libel or defamation of character, they wouldn't be able hide it unless willing to lie in a court of law. Boy what a mess it would be.
That's a strong accusation of religion-based discrimination you are making. I hope you're sure about it, and are prepared to provide your basis for making this public statement that could reasonably be seen as damaging to both the organization and the individuals involved in membership admission decisions.

You think all these members who kept people out just disappeared? Why people want to join a club that has that history is hard to understand but to each its own.
