I met John Travolta, Bono, and Natalie Portman. Only Bono was nice. The other two were so quiet, it was awkward.

I stood in line for the VIP bathroom at a concert with Michael Stipe, Adam from U2 (can't remember his last name) and Liv Tyler.

I waited on Dan Marino, Leslie Nelson, Sheriff Lobo (this was a long time ago), and a bunch of others where I worked.

I’ve never seen a celeb in my everyday life, on planes or on the street like many of you have. Am I not looking around enough or just unlucky? Off the top of my head, here are some famous person encounters I had in my 20s, from a first job kind of thing:

John Cusack: Came into the office where I worked for a meeting in the days when all the girls my age had a crush on him. Absolutely the nicest celeb of all. Not even a speck of ego/arrogance; was kind and thanked me for my time.

Andrew Shue (during the height of Melrose Place): At a party; a few fans were around him. My friend was a huge fan of the show, kind of gushing and wanted a pic with him. He obliged but he was scowling and clearly wasn't happy to be there.

Oprah: She was so tiny in person. It wasn’t just that she was probably going through a thin phase, but her height, overall physical presence, was much smaller than I had imagined. I thought she was really attractive.

Tom Hanks: He had that vibe of an actor who thinks the “low-level” people shouldn’t make even momentary eye contact with him.

Dave Letterman: Was giving him and some of his assistants a tour of our offices. He made insulting jokes about my boss, which I found inappropriate, given the status of my boss, whom I had & still have a lot of respect for. Others remarked how he had an entourage of only 20-somethings and there was a weird power dynamic going on. I’ve read he has mellowed some now that he’s no longer doing the show and living in Indiana.

Matthew McConaughey & Ashley Judd: At a movie premiere after-party. MM was, of course, great looking in person (back in the day). Thought he might have acted a little more laid back/down-to-earth, given his Texas/Southern charm image, but he buried himself in a conversation with Ashley Judd, which effectively shielded them both from any slight interaction with normies. She was also gorgeous and had the best skin I’ve ever seen. Absolutely glowing.

George Stephanopoulos: A friend and I got invitations to an event with media people, DC & LA celebs. There was a Vanity Fair after party that was only for the VIPs. We were hanging around outside the hotel, had taken our heels off because…grass, and were tip-toeing around trying to sneak in the back way. George S came out, looked over at us, laughed a little and said something like, hope you 2 get in and have a great time. We did get in, but by the time we got there, all the LA famous people had already left and were really the only ones we were interested in. Nice guy, but what 20-something is interested in Wolf Blitzer?

I think it's interesting that the most famous of the DC types (like President Clinton mentioned here) often crave talking with regular people while the LA types who act or entertain for a living often seem to think of themselves as above it all.

Hung out with the Ramones one night in 1990. They were kind of dorks.

Live in ny and have met and seen many celebs. Top of mind…

Leo DiCaprio (he was bike riding with a bodyguard and didn’t get close)
Adam Sandler (didn’t talk to him)
Ashton Kutcher (he was especially kind)
Rachel brosnehan (extremely kind)
Sting (not kind)
Robert Sean Leonard
Joshua Jackson (was nice but seemed like he was not trying to draw attention to himself)
Marla maples (Sat next to her at a restaurant)
Family met Reese Witherspoon in a work capacity and didn’t particularly like her

Ashton was so handsome and laid back. Demi was tiny and acting drunk (this was at a party)
Stephen King was casual and unassuming - like he did not want to be noticed.
The Olsen twin was just like you see in magazines, tiny with an overwhelmingly too large trench coat and bag, smoking a cigarette waiting for a cab at the hotel.
Oh - also let Will.I.Am. He's little.

Same experience with Stephen King. He was unassuming and casual. I can see why he likes living in Maine where he can just be himself.

My son graduated from the same boarding school as his grandson(s). He doesn't like people fawning.

I know! But he was shy and sweet at the time. Evans is a nice guy from a normal family.

I worked in media and like a PP have a fairly long list of celebrity meet ups, but I’ll say that short term interactions aren’t typically enough to give any sense of what the person is really like but I’ll mention a few that stood out.

Alec Baldwin. Worked on a project with him and he was charming but definitely not woke and made a number of offensive inappropriate comments about people.

Calista flockhart. Airhead.

Chris Rock. Hilarious, high energy

Bruce Springsteen. Sweet seeming, shorter than I expected

Chris martin. Fussy

I was on a chair lift with Zach Braff at a Vermont ski resort. It was a four person lift. My friend and I were on one side and he was on the other side facing us, with his friend. He was trying to have a convo with his friend about a new project he was starting, but my friend and I were intently listening, so he had to shut it. He was very handsome — more so than on tv. And had amazing hair (which was not in a helmet!!). I was grinning but fortunately had a face scarf covering my mouth!
