Yes, another Ross parent here. That's one of the things we love about it. It's a very close, caring community. One class per grade, lots of family events, everyone knows each other.

Totally agree with PP. I'm a physician and my family drinks DC tap water. I have lived here most of my life and would not have said this 20 years ago. The water quality is fine.

Unless you have lead pipes, OP, you can certainly drink tap water in DC with no ill effects.

Brokers are not common in DC.dc is not a broker town and if I was a landlord I would never pay a brokers fee. Look on craigslist.

Thanks -- any brokers in particular that people recommend? Moving to DC from out-of-state and not really familiar with the areas, but do want something walkable/Brooklyn-ish, to the extent possible. Lotteried into CM for PS3, which I believe will be in the Old Soldiers Home, so thinking about Mount Pleasant and Columbia Heights, possibly Brookland. Capitol Hill seems ideal but not sure about the commute from their to the new CM (also price may be too high). Will be coming in from out-of-state so hoping that a broker can help me get the most out of my limited apartment-hunting time...

In DC the landlord pays the fees, not the tenant. A broker can show you several different properties--they all seem to pull from a common list.
