If they think he may have killed someone, I think they'll be pretty likely to. At least I hope so.
I hope so too but suppose he's another longtime or prominent Alexandria resident and the victims were his peers. A neighbor may be hesitant to call the cops on, and essentially accuse, their neighbor. I know I doubt myself when it comes to stuff like this.

I was thinking this too. I think he may have just strolled home afterward and no one paid him any mind. Why would they? it's not like the police had the description of him the moment after it happened and he easily could have blended in to the neighborhood.
Also, I doubt the serail killer aspect.
I was listening to the scanner right after the call came in..they had a description of clothing and stopped a few people wearing similar clothing.
Also -- the Lodato's neighbors may not recognize the suspect if he lives several blocks away, but the people who live around him likely will. I know what all my neighbors look like.

Yes and no. You might know the people on your street but not necessarily a few blocks. They are pretty densly populated areas and it's easy not to know everyone.
