I would counter that if you've got money, connections, fame, title and/or big donations, NYU is an excellent choice for your good for nothing scion.
Anonymous wrote:Not sure how easy these are to get into anymore, but these are what I think of as some of the 2nd tier "brand name" schools:
UNC-Charlotte
George Mason (increasingly brand name)
UMass-Amherst
Rutgers
Temple
If you want something smaller, check out the COPLAC schools (Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges). Some are more selective; some less so.

Wow....you really cracked the code.
This is well documented.

Arizona State is now basically open enrollment. They have vast numbers enrolled online and have a partnership with Starbucks to enroll their employees. I figure its only a matter of time before their stats and reputation tank.
Their average enrolled freshman score is around 1200:

That's not super competitive, especially by DCUM/upper-middle class standards. But it's not exactly "open enrollment," either. I doubt that their reputation is going to tank because their reputation for decades has been "the easiest to get into major university."

That said, please do take a stab at it. Assuming a strong student (but not top ten percenter in grades or SATs) and well rounded extracurriculars (but not a recruitable athlete or a phenom in any one thing), and no hooks, what are some of the "brand name" schools one might take a look at.
How to get into UMich with "meh" stats:
>be OOS
>be full pay
>do 1 wk summer camp at UMich summer after soph and/or junior yr
>do an admissions tour at UMich in early fall of senior yr
>apply EA to their liberal arts college
