Anonymous wrote:SKR, the reason that I tell you to appeal is that what they had in mind for my DD was to be in the slow class and bring up the scores while also being the class babysitter. Of course, this is not what I had in mind for my DD. I appealed and won. I think that many qualified DCs are put in this position. The Principal told me he "hated" all these smart kids and that they did nothing for the school, and there were too many of them anyway. He told me what he liked was children with problems because the State funds those. Maybe he was just yanking my chain, but we left and went to the center school after that. GL

Seems like with this method, referred students already have bias against them since the teachers know they didn't make the pool.

Is your DC in 2nd grade? How are the CoGat scores? Did you ask the teacher why she was scored so low?

I have to appeal. The Stanford-Binet and the WJ scores are good. Dr. Dahlgren asked me to go for it. 50-50 chance, as the GBRS will continue to hurt my DC.If not this year, next year and hope to get a fair enough teacher/school who will do the right thing.
However, my Dc will not continue here. After knowing what they did, I have no faith in the school admin that they will ever be fair and give her an honest grading on GBRS.
Timing's off, very badly. It affects all of us differently.
I am worried about you. This post sounds unstable. "I have to appeal . . . [a]fter knowing what they did . . . [t]iming's off, very badly. It affects all of us differently." Are you okay?
haha, I am. Long day and am just thinking aloud.![]()

Go for it. If not this year, go for it next year. If not next year, move to another school the year after. You have 5 more years to go for it, and FCPS has more than 5 schools you can move to. Some of us will pray for your DC.
