I wish it was that simple. My DC's GBRS was 16 and DC was rejected.

Same DC now a junior at TJ. with WISC score 125.

Of course, this is not what I had in mind for my DD. I appealed and won. I think that many qualified DCs are put in this position. This is the methodology outlined for schools by the AAP office. They do the in pool kids once they know who they are (late January), then they do the referrals after all the referrals come in by the Feb 8th date. They do it like this every year.

Here is the link which is on boarddocs. The pool kids GBRS are done by 2/8 and the referral kids are done by 3/1. All of the teachers know the scores when they come out and also who is in the pool in January. So I don't think the timing makes any bias. Probably the scores speak for themselves.

I'm trying to decide on a psychologist to administer the WISC. Who would you prefer between Dr. Dehlgren and the Midwell? Any experiences with one or both?

Don't have the paper with me at the moment,but I can tell you that the scores were in the following order: nonverbal>quantitative>verbal. She's better at perceptions.

Yes, she's a 2nd grader. She scored 146(99%) NNAT, 80% FxAt,mostly4's and some 3on the report card. I think the extremely low GBRS is due to her shyness in her class participation. At home,she does 3rd-4th grade math,advanced reading, etc... but I don't think the teacher noticed any of her abilities.

Go for it. If not this year, go for it next year. If not next year, move to another school the year after. You have 5 more years to go for it, and FCPS has more than 5 schools you can move to. Some of us will pray for your DC.

To be brutally honest, I want her out of this school. Gen ed in any of the 4 schools within 3 mile radius of mine are doing much better than here. Plus social setting. Principal couldnt care less how zoning happens, she will not fight for resources. I just want my DC to get teh right challenge and grow in the right environment. AAP or not, this school is just not cutting it anymore. Sadly. I love the neighborhood.

Dr. Dahlgren will give you her honest assessment. I would guess that you need a very high WISC (over 140).

GBRS is 4 questions, 4 points each question. To be above average, your DC need better than 8 total. So 6 is below average. I don't think anybody knows for sure what kind of WISC will overcome GBRS 6, but it's your money, you DC, go for it. If didn't work out, do the PP planned, go for it the next year. Remember you can keep on trying until 7th grade.
