MCPS used to be a recommended district for gifted students. Next up is whatever they're going to end up doing to the CES program. And then what?

I truly don't want to send my kid to private school nor do I want to move, but I may well have to to keep her engaged in school.

We'll see whether she loses some of that fire after being told mid-presentation that her 4th grader gets to be the last class cohorted in 5th, or if she stays equally committed to the broader principles. I hope it's the latter.

Same question was raised for CKLA and for regional model. That's what I said: TT and Nikki Porter are both excellent at dismantling everything!

I think Yang will too. The problem is unless they pass some sort of directive/resolution, MCPS gets to do what they want in terms of implementation. The Board doesn't have much control here.

They have lie and say the current system is inflexible tracking that the state prohibits to justify making the change.

I like that Montoya is asking good questions..but I think it is distracting when she interrupts and asks the same question over and over again.

I'm curious if they have worked with current elementary teachers at all on this. It seems like they have wildly unrealistic expectations of the teachers. I'm also curious what data they have on how Model 2 is specifically working for gifted kids. What data do they have on kids that would have been in ELC?


They have not, and verbally confirmed that today.

They also hate teacher, especially ES teacher. Apparently teaching 3-level of math and 2-level CKLA everyday is a piece of cake for these CO folks.


Yep... I suspect a lot of 4th and 5th grade teachers will be running for the exits after this...

THIS! Elementary teachers need to come together on this. It’s just not doable with the new curriculum. Give them a year to learn it before they are expected to differentiate for 3-4 levels. Even then, get their feedback first.
