You all say "his dad was a lawyer!" like it means he was a partner in NYC Big Law. Sullivan, Maine has a population of 1200! Ellsworth, ME where he worked has a population of 8,000. You may drive by and through these places on your way to Bar Harbor but this is where the people who serve you live and work.
So the dad bought him a house? SO WHAT?! When I lived in that area, I bought the nicest house I'll ever live in just a few years before Platner got his for just over 100K. IK just looked it up and the median home price in Sullivan, Maine, in 2017 was between $116,000 and $140,000.
Platner lived his whole life in small-town, working class Maine. He served multiple tours in the Middle East. He works with his hands. Your assumption that he is a "rich kid defying daddy" says a lot more about you than it does about him.

And he explained he attended Hotchkiss on a large scholarship for part of one semester, then went to a different private school, also on a scholarship.
His upbringing was middle class, he says, but he works in a blue collar job. He didn't go to college, was in the military. He survives on a very small income because he has military health care and a pension.
The GOP is desperate to discredit him because he's going to win and we're going to flip the Senate.
Is he now saying he didn’t go to college? He attended GW for years, but quit one year short of graduating. He’s a very well read self proclaimed military history buff which is why his claims of ignorance about the Totenkopf he sported on his chest for nearly two decades just doesn’t fly.
And $60k/yr tax free is not a small income in downeast Maine, that’s preposterous.
I'm the PP.
He said he didn't finish college, or something like that.
He does not have a college degree.
OK, now? Happy?
I like him, and think he's going to win. Maine is tired of Susan Collins. The GOP voters will stay home and not vote.
I don’t think you know Maine politics very well.
The odious Trump before Trump two term Governor Paul LePage is running for the congressional seat in CD2 - he is very popular with Maine Republicans and many independents, as for right or wrong (mostly wrong) they see Maine’s economic decline to have been a result of his leaving by term limitation and Janet Mills coming into office.
With LePage on the ballot, R voter turnout in CD2 will be very high and Collins will benefit from that.

Nice try, tr@ll. I love how the coastal Lap top establishment who are so completely elite and bubble are always trying to attack everyone else’s working bonafides. The irony.
The guy was in the military. He works and earns with his hands, not off his investments. And everyone knows a 20 something getting a tattoo with their buddies in a foreign country doesn’t research the layered history of their tattoo. No one before this oppo research thought it was problematic- including the US military - and when he heard it could be offensive, he covered it. The end.

She will lose. Both sides hate her.
That’s ridiculous. Latest polls show a very tight race; the most recent shows Collins up by 11 points after Mills dropped out.
JD Vance had hundreds show up to see him speak in Bangor last week, dozens turned away because the venue was full.
A couple dozen protesters showed up across the street.
The Platner supporters posting here are not comprehending politics in Maine if they truly think he’s going to easily trounce her in November.
What poll is that?
+1 would love to know. I’m not a big fan of his and I don’t think he’s going to trounce her, but he definitely has a shot.

It’s a CD2 poll result but still significant as it shows that in fact, both sides don’t hate Susan Collins.

Useless poll if it’s only 2nd district. And, btw, this is the same district that sent Jared Golden (D) to the House. Anyway, PLENTY of people who are Rs who don’t like Collins in 2nd district. Doesn’t mean they won’t vote for her, but they’re not doing it happily.
Maybe some of the Rs who vote for Collins will do so holding their noses, but they’ll still vote for her.
I don’t think Platner can count on D voters that way. I’m seeing plenty of comments on socials from Ds in Maine who don’t want anything to do with putting him in office.
We’ll see come November.
