How do you think it became a “public letter”? Taylor didn’t release it.

Thanks for sharing that, CO staff member. It"s Saturday night, relax, take some time off, maybe the problem is you are burnt out and that is why MCPS's public communications are such a sh&t show

How do you think the letter became public?

Probably through a PIA request right? Because, the letter is legally subject to public disclosure - written by a public SERVANT to publicly elected officials - all taxpayer funded.

Not likely PIA. That process takes much longer. It must have been either a sender or a recipient (or agent of) intentionally sending to the press.

Mink had a lot more to fam from doing that than Taylor did.

Because he sent a letter to all her colleagues that clearly referenced her actions without naming her. Everyone he addressed it to knew he was referring to her in several parts of the meandering letter.

I want to make sure I understand, you agree it was likely Minke that made it “public” and not Taylor?

(And thank you for understanding my typo in the PP!)

Everything any elected representative or government official sends is available to the public. As it should be. However, LOTS of correspondence goes back and forth between these people that is not directed at a public audience.

This letter was sent to many “elected leaders” so it makes sense to lead off that way.

The original assertion was that Taylor sent this letter somehow to the public, which was an indication of…something bad.

Based on past practice, as evidenced by links in the letter itself, the letter itself was not that.

Some seem to take issue with the “tone and content” which I would like to understand more. But that is a different issue.

How do you think the letter became public?

According to the PP above it apparently wasn't Taylor?

Right. How do you think it became public? Do you think it was Taylor? You think he sent it to the media?

I don't care how it became public, I just know that this bickering between MCPS and the Council is not a good look for any of them but especially for Taylor

OK great. So we can put to bed the idea that Taylor sent a “public” letter to “swing his dick.”

I mean either
- We don't know if Taylor chose to make the letter public or
- an insider close to Taylor is on DCUM arguing with random anonymous posters on a Saturday night

A couple other options:
- another recipient of the letter shared it with media
- a poster who is not an “insider” questions the conclusion that Taylor shared it with the media

We agree that a letter between the superintendent and the council is not itself a “public” statement, right? And by that I mean that it is available to the public if sought by a resident or media, but isn’t itself something intended for a public audience?

Jesus what is wrong with you? Do you need help? Seriously, 988 is a great resource

Other than insulting me personally, do you have a response that contributes to the discourse?

It's not an insult. I genuinely think you are spiraling and need to take a breath. Because the way you are presenting yourself it is clear you are very invested in defending Taylor, and you are not making him look good at all. Stop, step away from your phone.

Appreciate the advice.

Do you agree that the two additional options I provided for why the letter is in the public sphere are plausible?

There’s plenty wrong with it

Sends a terrible message that he dgaf and won't listen to anyone

I think he means he won’t listen to chronic cranks such as the Mad Mommies of MoCo who are always Big Mad.

Which is fair. They lack credibility and their feelings aren’t valid.

It was clear he meant he won’t listen to State Senator Cheryl Kagan. He thinks she lacks credibility and her feelings aren’t valid. She is also a very powerful State Senator. Let’s see how that works out for him.

Correct. He’s also now picked a fight with Education & Culture Committee member Kristin Mink:

https://bethesdamagazine.com/2026/02/27/mcps-district-rules-immigration/

This is not picking a fight. This is actually doing his job to keep students and schools a safe place to learn. I wouldn't mix this issue with the boundary/closing issue. They are not remotely alike.

How is it not picking a fight when Kristin clearly says she felt targeted by Taylor’s letter, and was disappointed and taken aback by it? She also vowed to keep doing the Know Your Rights sessions and showing up at schools. So she and Taylor are in open conflict now.

This is literally a fight now between 1 of 3 people on the E&C Committee, who decide how much to fund MCPS, and Dr. Taylor.

Dr. Taylor would have been much better off having a direct meeting with Mink and her team about his concerns rather than doing a general, passive aggressive letter attacking her and then having your PIO deny it was directed at her in the first place, as if she and the rest of the public are too dumb to see that he’s lying.

Is it "picking a fight" any time anybody does something that somebody else doesn't like? Maybe she "picked a fight" with him by giving operational advice to MCPS employees?

That letter was professional and cordial. It didn't "attack" anybody. Did you even read the letter?

"I am writing for two reasons, because I need your help: (1) – I want to share information about what the school system is doing about immigration enforcement, and (2) – to update you on guidance the school system shared with elected officials about school visits in February 2023 (before I came back to MCPS)."
https://montgomeryperspective.com/2026/02/25/taylor-sets-boundaries-for-elected-officials-at-mcps-schools/

Again, not EVERYTHING the man does has to be a terrible thing. And painting it like that undercuts the credibility of those who oppose the bad things he is doing.

You are ignoring the fact that Mink perceived the letter as an attack, stated as much and expressed disapproval of Taylor’s approach. This is not MY opinion. This is the opinion of an elected official who felt targeted by him and has now responded, which indeed makes it a conflict.

Why are you struggling to read and comprehend?

I am concerned about Taylor trying to bottleneck council members visits to schools. If you have derelict facilities and you are getting nowhere with the school district (that tends to hide problems), then visits from council members are helpful. Now, principals will be threatened into shutting these down. Taylor, with more big brother control.

No, the principals just want advance notice of who's coming.

You must think we're stupid. Principals have always been aware of council member visits - it's the threat from CO to principals that will be shutting down visits. But don't worry. We will be taking notes and reporting in council testimony about the strangulation of information that results from Taylor's new control policy. As much as Taylor thinks he is king of the hill, this type of intimidation will not win him points in the end.

Taylor's own words: "We want you in our schools, and we want you to visit regularly. That said, it is imperative that you follow these protocols when you visit so we can keep everyone safe and keep the school’s leadership informed."

Nothing wrong with that.

You are full of it Essie. The community knows BS when we see it. Move along.

Not Essie. What is BS about it? You don't want schools to have visitor protocols?

They do have protocols which Mink was apparently following.

But not everyone was following them, and now there are revised protocols, which he was sharing via this letter.

"We have made a few updates to account for the world as it is today. Linked here are our updated protocols for school visits and tours, which include a Google form to ensure full awareness and documentation of visitors in our schools or on school grounds. While informal visits may have become commonplace, it is particularly imperative now that we reiterate and reinforce this standing policy."

He addressed the letter to "Elected Officials". If MCPS has protocols regarding visits, as they do and should, it is up to MCPS staff to follow them. Why did he address elected officials and who wasn't following the protocols? Whoever you are you are just digging yourself deeper with this incoherent defense of Taylor.

Um, the letter he sent references and links to a letter sent to the Council under the PRIOR superintendent about those protocols. This wasn’t novel or inappropriate.

LOL. That first letter was from McKnight's superintendency. Not the best justification for Taylor to use, but if that is where he is landing for an example to follow, I am not surprised.

The tone and content of that prior memo is appropriate. His letter is all over the place.

OK, so we’re moving the goal posts.

We agree a letter to elected officials is appropriate. Great.

What is wrong with the tone and content?

I'm not here to teach you basic public relations skills.

OK so you are here to make assertions without backing them up. Got it.

So we have no reason to agree with you that there is anything wrong with the tone or content.

It sounds like you like Taylor's letter! Great, I think that it is inappropriate and makes him sound like a little child. This is called a DIFFERENCE OF OPINION.

Agree! I’m just trying to understand your opinion. Can you point to any parts of the “tone or content” that you find objectionable?

We absolutely don’t have to have the same opinion. But I assume yours is based on what is actually written in the letter? What is that?

I've already explained it in previous posts. We're not going to agree. I think Taylor looks terrible here. You don't. We all have access to the information that has been made public and can make out own decisions about what we think about it..you seem to think you can change my opinion by berating me incessantly, but you just sound really overly defensive of him in a kind of bizarre way.

I have read the entire thread and see no post that indicates particular language that is inappropriate in “tone or content.”
