Yes and that’s fine by me. It feels like the right amount of risk tolerance.

Whole problem here is the terrible decision making by folks being paid 300-400k year. You cannot reasonably claim, if conditions were so “unsafe” that entire school system had to close, that conditions tomorrow will be materially any better tomorrow (or Wed/Thurs for that matter). So leadership is either OK with another full week of no school (which is terrible ninny timid leadership) OR will hypocritically move the goal posts later this week.

Shocking development. Perfect goal post movement: FCPS trying to tell us that such Herculean progress was made in one day that we went FROM it's not remotely safe for 180,000 students to possibly enter schools TO all clear now, everything is tip top shape, all our safety concerns have been ameliorated.

Don't they realize how ridiculous they look as credible decision makers? If they can go back 2 hour delay tomorrow, they 100% could have (and should have) today as well.

Or... more like ... things were really close to being ready for today, but not quite there. With the extra day of work put into clearing the worst of the issues today, it's good enough to open tomorrow, but only with a 2-hour delay to give people extra time to navigate the traffic issues and make sure the middle schoolers have daylight at their bus stops.

Doesn't sound so crazy when you look at it that way. Of course it's never going to go from 100% terrible to 100% perfect in one day ... but at some point it has to tip over to "good enough".

There’s no meaningful difference in conditions yesterday vs. today. The snowcrete isn’t melting. There are still huge ice piles everywhere and at the bus stops. They could have opened yesterday with a delay, but they didn’t.

I actually feel bad for people like you. You don’t have to defend every FCPS decision. Some of their decisions are just bad and wrong. You don’t have to accept whatever scraps they throw your way with a smile on your face - it’s ok and good to disagree and call out the people in charge, and it’s even ok to vent when they get it wrong.

My neighborhood is a lot clearer today than yesterday. The sun and the 32 degree weather brought a lot of folks out with metal shovels and salt. Sidewalks are probably 75% cleared compared to 50% yesterday, based on my dog walking observations.

Usually they happen if school is happening.

Gyms are open today even though school is closed. FCPS/PTA after-school programs will presumably be on for tomorrow.

With other counties going to 2-hour delay, they were always going to do that.

Are you being sarcastic? Evidently you are not a working mother trying to balance meetings, deliverables, proposals, trying to limit screen time, thinking of educational activities to keep kids engaged, remembering to feed your kids meals (let alone feed yourself), slip sliding all over the yard while taking the dogs out, etc., etc.

I understand why the kids are out of school and I'm resigned to that, but I am not going to pretend that I'm happy about it and that I think that it's better for my kids to be home rather than in school.

That's what family is for. You and your husband should enjoy this time together with your children. You'll miss it when it's gone.

I absolutely agree! It's sad that anybody has to tell people to enjoy the time they have with their kids despite whatever work issues they also must endure. Although on the other hand if you refuse to be happy about that part of it you are probably right that your kids would be better off in school or with a sitter. They don't need to get the vibe that you can't appreciate extra time with them.

In a world where most people have limited PTO is not ‘extra’ its a tradeoff. Probably a bad one. Its one more school event a working parent will miss because they wasted a day off. It’s shorter vacations. Most kids would rather have a day with their parents at the beach than a(nother) day inside with one parent. You know this, of course, you’re just trying to deny the reality of kist to excuse FCPS behavior.

Pointing out that you might be suffering from a breakdown is in no way linked to the FCPS school closure.

^ Everyone should ignore this person. She is trying to gaslight parents who want very normal and expected things into feeling guilty and thinking there's something wrong with them.

Not this person you are fighting with but parents who care and expect safety for travel to and from school are normal and should not feel guilty about caring. Just stop already.

There’s a difference between having a different opinion from someone else, and judging that other person because they have a different opinion. It is wrong for people to say that parents concerned about schools opening are mentally ill, and it is wrong to say that parents who are concerned about schools staying closed do not care about their children. When did everyone start thinking that their opinion was the only correct one?

Not referring to PP, but not everybody is a loving and caring parent - they often hate every aspect of parenthood.

Oh shut up already. You're the same type who tells exhausted mothers of newborns to enjoy every second, while they are barely hanging on with postpartum depression symptoms. Parents do not have to enjoy every moment of parenthood. They are allowed to be frustrated with prolonged school closures and stressed about balancing work and kids, especially when it brings back memories of what was a really hard time during the pandemic. It is ok for kids to be aware that their parents can't always drop everything when school is closed, especially now that most adults can telework. Not everything is a black and white dichotomy. That is the thinking of a simple-minded individual. Emotions can co-exist.

Wow! you must have quite an awful life to project so much emotion on an anonymous forum.

Thanks for confirming you are a simpleton.

Thanks for proving my point.

Your point is beyond tired. "People who want their kids at school hate them!" Take your smug ass back to 2020 with that crap.

So much tantruming about school closures seems like you took yourself right back to 2020. I'm sure you were crying then too.

I was home with a toddler the but I had empathy for parents put into an impossible situation. You should try tha some time instead of coming on here to needle and lecture. Loser.

Still yelling at everyone I see.
