I drove my kids to school. They prefer to walk the last block because they have friends that are walkers so they did. Sidewalks were fine. Roads were fine. The only issue was kids were picking up the snow and throwing it so the safety patrol and teachers had to keep telling them to put it down.

FCPS made an operational decision based on the conditions. These conditions are deemed safe for travel outside of a few small spots. Just becuase we've closed for less in the past doesn't mean we need to continue to close for any snow whatsoever. Reid seems much less likely to close than previous superintendents so kids will probably continue to go to school in these conditions in the future.

We kept our kids home. Our neighborhood roads are icy and I am worried about the afternoon.

By your logic, someone could say they think it's reasonable to be worried about going to school every single day because of school shootings. Schools cannot leave opening decisions up to parental assessment of risk because there will always be some who are more anxious than others. School systems have to base decisions on their own published and predetermined risk assessment process, whether you always agree with it or not.

I know what you're getting at, but that's not the point. A person believing that it's reasonable to be worried is not the same as it truly being reasonable to be worried. That's why we agree that what constitutes "reasonable" is the true subject of debate - not whether or not schools should be closed once we meet that threshold.

My whole reason for bringing this up in the first place what that the whole "stay home if you don't like it" seemed way out of place in this conversation.
