My guess it they will start a "freeze" social security disability payments while they conduct a "review" to determine which ones are "fraud." That would be in line with how they've done the USAID and NIH cuts. They will go after SSDI first because that's not as politically popular.
SSDI is retirement for a huge percentage of blue collar workers. It's going to become real popular pretty quickly once it stops
That shouldn't be the case. Those benefits should be carefully scrutinized.
They are. But, if you are 60 with a high school education or less and have spent 40+ years doing manual labor, your body has probably broken down enough that you legit can’t stand and walk for 6 hours and lift and carry 20 pound s at least 3 hours a day and Qp pounds another 3, with various bending, stooping, etc.
If you have no transferrable skills or skilled work, it’s progressively y easier to qualify at 55 and 60. You’re a DMV lawyer who has more education, some skills and can sit at a desk with stretch breaks? That’s not so easy. But hardcore manual labor over decades takes a toll.

I'd love to have all my Social Security taxes back. Most people would do far better in the market.
The average American is not rich or know about investing like you. The average American makes 60k a year, would lose their nest egg, and would be on government assistance in old age anyway. You might not want to hear this because you’re a sophisticated rich educated person but most people aren’t you.
Great, make a pool for them and don't make it mandatory for everyone else. Let people choose what's right for them.
And where do you think the money for that pool would come from?
Self fund it for those that chose to participate if no company would back it then it's not a viable program

Except Boomers aren’t the problem so much as GenZ males. And abolishing SS fits right in with that world view.

Anonymous wrote:Yes I'd like a buyout and then opt out of ss even if it's half of what I put in I would benefit much more from it. My retirement plans do not include ss as part or my income I plan to use it 5 houses I bought and rent them out when I retire in 20 year.
