I mean what did we expect. How many US made / funded bombs have killed humans in the Middle East? That doesn’t window hearts and minds. In fact, it inspires hatred.

Sure.

But the tool they are using to manipulate people to commit acts of terrorism—including Americans like the this guy born and raised in the USA who murdered innocent people in NoLA—is religion…Islamic extremism specifically.

And they aren’t just doing it via corrupt religious leaders who live in the USA. They are also using TikTok and the internet.

Propaganda is real and it is also effective.

Hopefully an act of terrorism against the US will bring all of us together. This Red/Blue stuff driving a wedge between Americans is dangerous. The terrorists who hate America and the West are the ones we should worry about…together.

This. And also, this was on first look, the most unlikely person, born and raised in TX, 15 years of service in the armed forces, a likely decorated combat vet. Friends, family, real estate agent. His posts became increasingly religious, a friend said, but in a positive uplifting way, never saw it coming. This is sad… and very bad for all of us.

this guy was a wife beater and child abuser. It wasn’t a surprise to anyone who takes violence against women seriously. He was going to kill his family but was narcissistic enough to go out in a terrorist attack instead.

No, this would fit with radicalization. During the process he also became a domestic abuser.

You think men only become wife beaters if they are “radicalized” by outside forces?

I think we have a former military turned radical problem. According to this article, they are radicalizing at a faster rate than the general population.

I sadly believe this...I know some former marines that are MAGA and with every passing year seem to become more and more extreme in their thoughts and beliefs. It's unsettling.

Wake up. This killer was ISIS not MAGA. Your attempts to politicize a terrorist attack are frankly disgusting.

You know who is politicizing a terrorist attack? The guy who says in his statement about New Orleans that "the criminals coming in are far worse than the criminals we have in our country" even though this particular terrorist was born in the United States. When somebody is about to become president, is it too much to ask for him to get the facts right before sharing this with his millions of followers?

He just makes everything so much worse.

Fix red even corrected Trump!

Just because he has a "funny" name doesn't make him ISIS.

Bottom line, whether one is being radicalized in ISIS or MAGA, it is a problem for everyone else.

The military needs to do a better job when people separate from service of both psychologically testing them and making sure they are aware of all the benefits they may be available. Military life is hard on marriage and can mean you pass up other career activities . It put a huge hole in our pockets every time we lived separately (unavoidably). I am not in any way defending this guys horrific actions, but I've seen the transition out process and it's a rubber stamp.

There is a lot of support available. It may vary locally, but in this case, it does not appear a factor. He had friends and family and became a real estate agent, War on Terror vets get generous funds, and he successfully finished a business degree while he was in the Reserves.
He seems overall an unlikely person to have succumbed to the extreme ideology.

And yet he did. And therein lies the problem we have to figure out. Not all this R versus D crap.
