Right, and they send him off to a friend's house with no concern about these supposed kidnappers? If they believe that because of John's business someone has literally kidnapped their child and threatened to execute them ... I would think they'd want their eye on the other kid.

I dont even need to know where it ended up, I just want to know exactly why and I do not believe the convenient suicidal pilot theory when it makes little sense for him to take an entire plane full of people
Why? That German pilot did and others.
Yeah, that's what the authorities told us anyway. I never bought it.

I can maybe see the parent(s) applying the duct tape and wrist ties... but not the business with the garotte and the paintbrush, nor can I see a little kid Burke's age coming up with that. I just can't picture loving parents doing that to their child even as part of staging a crime scene.
This is why I think Burke had nothing to do with it this time. You should listen to the Normal Family podcast. It’s eye opening.
In contrast though, someone on Reddit gave a very detailed description of how childlike the entire crime was, and it actually really put me in the Burke camp , with my only hesitation being that he has never had any issues with crime since it happened (but , if it was an accident that was covered up sloppily by Burke and then his parent, I could see him not committing any purposeful crimes later in life).
I watched a documentary a few years ago, I forget the title/what channel, but they gave evidence that the likelihood of a 9 year old being able to whack someone with the amount of force that JB was whacked with would be very unlikely; the likelihood the a 9 year old would do it *accidentally* is pretty much nil.
Really? I find this surprising, given that I have no other credentials than watching 9YO's play Little League. I mean, I'm being tongue in cheek, but they can swing really hard when doing so intentionally.
Agree that hitting that hard as an accident seems very unlikely.
I don't buy that Burke did it and if so, it definitely wasn't intentional.

I'm the PP with that father that worked the case. He was a Special Agent with the FBI. He was in the house multiple times and interviewed the father and mother. They shielded Burke the entire time. Plenty of psychos go dormant for long periods. Plenty others also get away with crimes.
Yes. I read all the books, everything about that case. Burke had been violent before with his sister. If I recall didn't he smear his poop in her room? There was no doubt Patsy wrote that rambling random letter, that alone was beyond belief.
I believe a similar variation to this. I also believe John didn’t know anything until he started putting the pieces together that morning. I think it explains why he’s spent his life protecting the truth, and thus, his wife and son.
I always thought Patsy did it and did all the cover up stuff and fooled John and he supported her because he didn't believe she could do that and being a determined guy and rich, used his money for attorneys and protection. I think she was very stressed out from being sick, the holidays and being a perfectionist and she just seemed strange being so into the pageant world. She snapped and lost it.
I read the John Douglas book that makes the case for an intruder. The book was called The Cases That Haunt Us or something like that.
I don't know. I think any of them could have done it.
But to the extent she would SA her with a paintbrush? Snap and hurt her and kill her, yes. SA her? No.

I believe it was the parents.
My theory is they wanted to party that night and gave Madeleine too much of a sedative (both are/were doctors) and she died.
Plus, a cadaver dog picked up on decomposition in the trunk of the families rental car.
Reminds me of the Julian Moore movie Freedomland where the mom medicates her son so she can leave at night to be with a man. And then blames the son’s death on someone else.
I like this theory because it is “less awful” than some alternatives. But, I don’t think the timeline works. They discover they over-sedated and therefore killed their child, and they return to the dinner table laughing and drinking wine like nothing happened? No way.
