Love everyone for realizing that Jeremy and Phil are not the problem here- they are two of the best coaches in all of NCAP and throughout all PVS, and they deserve to have been treated far better. Dan S could have been brought into

NCAP through other ways without eliminating either of them. Many other sites out there.

If this is so painful for you then please leave. The last thing we need is this dragging on and becoming a distraction for those who are going to stick with the club. Spencer may be an idiot but what is done is done.

This reads like a horrible decision and I’m so sorry for the affected families. It also suggests like the original site — NCAP-Burke — remains a franchise. It gives the Burke site full autonomy over coaching hires and other policy decisions within the bounds of the franchise agreement. So the Ugasts can’t come in and tell Burke it has to fire two people and hire some unknown.

Does anyone know where Phil might be headed next? Will he keep coaching?

It took people this long to figure out that 99% of a swim team is there to subsidize the top 1%? Come, come DP, you are not that slow, are you? Club sports operate on outcomes and sell those outcomes under the guise of "We can do this for you." Without a top-1 % outcome, what can they sell?

+1000000000%

He is a wonderful human

I really question NCap management, Tom Ugast, and Spencer- they've literally screamed at parents for nothing and treat the swimmers and coaches like garbage unless you are a top 1% swimmer. When will people realize they are both so full of it?

Phil Kominski always has the swimmers health in mind- even yesterday morning before the news was emailed, he was making technique adjustments on S2 kids so they wouldn’t injure their shoulders.

When my kid was being verbally abused by a coach on their old team (it wasn’t just my kid and that coach no longer coaches anywhere in PVS), and that coach ignored concussion protocol when my kid got injured from a collision with another kid, it was Phil who gave my kid a spring tryout so my kid could start with NCAP in the summer and we would not have to double pay a registration fee to a team that we wanted to leave.

The insane parents have mostly moved on at Prep at this point. The families of the 15yo and younger seem no different than any other site at any other club.

Blaming parents for this decision is just taking cheap shots. Nobody knew a thing about this, and certainly none of the parents would have wanted Phil out. Even the craziest ones.

GP family here. Phil Kominski is likely the best current coach for age group swimmers in the entire NCAP staff and the best person to ever coach for the NCAP age group swimmers, but many GP families believe that the admin should not have made either of these specific changes in order to bring in Dan S.

Cochran was not expected to be at GP permanently when he started coaching at GP- he originally came to help them fix a different problematic hire, so my kid and everyone else is in utter shock that he’s OUT completely. We expected that maybe he would be sent to another site to help right the ship there, same as how he arrived at GP. Cochran has been kind, honest, attentive, supportive and caring and has the love of all of the swimmers and families. They have all improved. The NCAP admin have made many kids and their families very skeptical of Dan S before he even walks in the door by eliminating the exact 2 people who have already proven themselves to be the right people to lead B1, S2, and G2.

Who was shown the door? Spit it out.

DP I’m going to guess it’s Jeremy Cochran who had been running Gold 2 this year. Is this going to be a John Flanagan at Marymount situation for Bruce where he is still part of the program but Dan Schinnerer is the main guy now?

Hopefully not. This guy has achieved great results in year 1 at GP and the kids really like him. Revelation at the site to have a coach be kind and compassionate with their swimmers.

Seriously? Then he must have had a personality change since leaving TY. That is NOT how he was there.

It’s a chicken or egg question. Yes, the parents are crazy, but BG basically encourages the craziness (or, at least, plays into it). It was a mostly normal place until about 2016/2017. Then you had total lunatic families come to swim at GP so that their kids could swim for BG (or could some day).

Interesting- I say that with seriousness. I know families who have moved expressly to train with him and I know families that have fled his training due to his personality and overtraining that led to injuries.

I say this as a parent of a younger kid at Prep: I’m crossing all fingers and toes that BG is retired by the time my kid can be moved up to Gold 1/2 (as I am not one of the above-mentioned insane parents)🤞🏻 I just want my kid to still enjoy swimming in high school and hope this new coach will promote that atmosphere. Anyone know anything about Dan S?
