By law, they are entitled to “youthful offender” status, and understandably treated differently when they slip up. Everyone makes mistakes. Youthful offender goes up to age 26 in DC.
Don’t you want to give children a second chance?

i find it ridiculous that the limit is 25. i can understand that a 15 yr mandatory sentence for a 14 yr old may not be the best idea ( i am livid at the current crime rate but i can still see that a 14 yr old should get serious help instead of prison in many cases). but a 24 yr old who goes around carjacking old ladies with a gun to their head?? above 16 judge should be able to consider adult charges if the situation warrants them
I tried to make this point upthread and someone said "science says their brains are still growing." I couldn't tell whether they were satirizing the left or being serious, but let's just let their brains grow safely in jail rather than out here where the brain growth is leading them to attack our communities.

Learn to defend yourselves folks...cause the government isn't going to help.

The Republican alternative of a police state is simply too frightening to contemplate.
So sick of these attempts to normalize crime. I say bring in the Republicans --lifetime Dem.
