Mayor Bowser begged the council to not strip police funding. Begged. I don't like her and what she is doing with destroying CRE / propping up condo development bros, and so I voted for the totally reasonable Republican two terms ago-do you recall that was an option, not just the two Whites last round? However, she has tried to raise the alarm on the Councils disastrous crime moves a couple of times. Yes, she needs to be far more aggressive with them and the district and federal attorneys dropping charges and the disastrous judges we have in this city. But she's on a better side of this than those entities - they are who I am referring to when I say "vote the bums out" and "shine light on this".
Well said - including about her love for the condo devel bros. But one crime she’s shown more pragmatism than most of the council.

A man viciously attacked daycare workers in front of toddlers and the council rep fell all over himself to speak of getting services for the attacker. Thats the mindset of city leadership now and crime will only get worse.
This. They don't want to criminalize mental illness (fair enough), but thats the only time these folks get removed from society. The authorities have no way to otherwise force these people into a secured mental facility for treatment and protection -theirs and ours- and WONT legislate it. So result? They are left to roam the street until after many obvious warning signs nice little kiddies and their teachers get attacked. This is the result of a Council that won't do Sh*t.

They cut MPD's budget by less than 3%. That's practically a rounding error in the MPD budget - not even a statistically significant number. Yet MPD pretends that's catastrophic. Many other agencies routinely see budget cuts far bigger than that.

A Republican ran the last time as well. That is an option. You won't get zapped from space if you check the R on a municipal election. However, I retierate that Bowser has historically been pro a robust police force. As was her Republican opponent, Stacia Hall:

None of the candidates you list had a realistic chance of winning. And the Council is a bigger problem than the mayor. Allen ran unopposed. For all who talk about "voting" only Lisa Gore has stepped up to run as an electable candidate. We need more of those, but not too many or you end up with a Nadeau situation.

Not to be confused with the "Whites" now or formerly on the DC Council. The "colorful" Council names -- those named Brown (Michael and Kwame), Orange (Vincent), White (Trayon and even Robert) haven't exactly been star performers on the Council.
