Yeah, I also feel sorry for teens (13, 14, 15) with a Hollywood royalty dad, living in multiple mansions full of servants, attending the best private schools, who can go to college they want... and will inherit a fortune.

I feel sorry for kids who grow up piss poor in Appalachia and Baltimore ghettos. Not teen silver spoons in California whose parents are merely divorcing.

This is a wrong headed comment.

Of course in a material sense Costner’s kids are better off - but that does not compensate for a soul destroying relationship with one’s father. History is replete with examples of wealthy men destroying their children’s psyches and the wreckage unfolding accordingly. Money is no insulator against profound pain and regret. If anything those children born with a silver spoon and a neglectful parent are more inclined to self destruction because they often have no driving force other than the desperate need to please Papa, whereas working class and middle class kids have the struggle to survive to distract them.

How do you know he is a terrible, uninvolved parent? A quick google doesn't bring up any negative stories about him and his kids. Are his older kids estranged? Have they spoken out?

He broke the news to his kids over Zoom. He’s a de facto crappy and uninvolved dad. He could’ve hopped on his jet and told them in person but he had better things to do.

Are you close to his ex or something?

Not that poster but I googled it and it seems Kevin was away filming on location and she filed for divorce. She sent Kevin a message saying she had filed and how they were going to tell the kids together in person when he got back in 5 days. He decided he didn't want to do it her way and wanted to talk to them alone and and not with her and didn't want to wait five days so he told them over videocall. Apparently he video called with them every day when on location so they are used to this mode of communication. She was angry that he did it that way and not her way of telling them together once he was back home.

Both were concerned the kids would find out from online sources as the divorce filing is public record

That was still an ass move on his part. You hop on the plane immediately, even during a production. I can’t imagine not canceling a business trip for such a personal emergency.

Productions can get shuffled around for 24-30 hours.

Couldn’t she wait until he returned from filming to file for divorce? It seems odd to me that she filed while he is out of the country and then claims that she wants them to get together to tell the kids about the divorce before they find out about it online.

Of course she could have waited.

I love how all the SAHMs here are calling another SAHM a gold digger and layabout. The nerve is unreal. Are you saying what you do for your family is worthless and not meaningful?

Kevin is a very smart, very accomplished man who has raised many kids. The wife is a dim layabout. Kevin can decide when he wants to tell his teen kids, not the conniving dimwit making moves to take his money.

It can be struck down if a judge deems it unconscionable because the terms are grossly unfair. A sole earning spouse keeps all assets earned over an 18 year marriage where the other spouse stayed home with the couples three children (other than ~ $1m of $400m). His earning power is multimillions annually and she hasn’t worked in decades.

He has already offered her millions in cash, child support cash, and cash towards a new home — while he pays 100% of the teen kids’ expenses. Your attempts to smear him are comical. She is just being a greedy gold digger trying to break an agreement she signed at age 30. She wasn’t some babe in the woods. A grown a** 30 years old.

What was her income age 18 to 30? Probably about nil. Just a common gold digger who is showing her true colors.

+1. I find it hard to believe this prenup is going to stand. Under CA law she'd be entitled to 1/2 of the assets accumulated during the marriage of 20 years, which is going to be a whole lot more than $1million. He'd be smart to settle. I agree with PP that Costner's treatment of her is horrible. And he's trying to kick her out of the house? I wouldn't go willingly either.

He has the same lawyer as Kelly Clarkson. The prenup will stand.

Even Brandon Blackstock (Kelly’s ex) got more.

He got what was in the prenup which is the point.

The prenup should’ve been on more of a vesting schedule where she got more depending on how long they were married.

It’s so stupid when rich famous men try to screw their wives this way. It’s much smarter to give them enough money and perhaps an agreement not to malign in press or do a book deal

NP. Nobody cares. I’m sorry, but all the hysterics in this thread claiming that KC will lose fans are delusional. First, if they even know about it, there will be a lot of people who look at the situation and say, she was 30, she had a lawyer herself, and she signed a contract, too bad. Second, nobody cares what male celebrities do. Tom Cruise is hugely popular, for instance.

This thread seems to be populated by women who have a meager understanding of California pre-nup litigation. She could challenge but she is probably going to lose.

I don’t really understand all the takes in this thread that seem totally untethered to reality.

I have an above average understanding of CA family law and would wager money this prenup gets thrown out. The terms are egregious when you consider the relative wealth of the parties, the length of the marriage, 3 kids that she appeared to solo partner, her lack of any career or skills. There is a unique set of facts here that are different from other ultra high end divorces. He should settle.

Nope he has worked 50 years to amass that fortune and skills, she’s done nothing.

Stop quitting your jobs and trying to ride on the coats of others.

Sounds like he handled it the right way since he was concerned about the press. If the ex was concerned about the press and her kids, she could have waited the 5 days for him to return, told him, and then kids while he was there and her attorney was filing.

Oh come on! Telling your kids about divorcing their mom on Zoom where they can't hug or touch you? Such a jerk move. He's not in a war zone. They'll never forget how he told them.

Because it's not tethered to reality. It's probably some cyber smear campaign, with a handful of bitter ex wives and wannabe gold diggers thrown in.

Must be. These posts are pretty nuts.
