OP shouldn't have to be the one to move, since she is not at fault in any way. I'd bet (as some noted earlier in the thread) that other neighbors may already have beef with the dog owner neighbors and would side with OP. The dog was trouble waiting to happen.


She shouldn't, but people like the jerk neighbors never leave quietly, and I personally wouldn't be comfortable spending $$$$ on legal avenues to try to force them to leave me alone.

How hard did you kick the dog, OP? Like hard enough to cause internal injuries? Are they saying you killed the dog?


Curious too. What was the cause of death? Improper care while quarantined or internal bleeding from a really hard kick? Team OP, but I can see how the latter would cause more animosity especially against a small dog who did no lasting damage. (Not defending the dog and my dogs are all big who would never bite; I know the smaller ones are dicks, but if you kicked the thing like it was a football in the Super Bowl enough to kill it I can see that being perceived as an overreaction).



You don't truly sound very "Team OP" in this post. WTF with the "overreaction" comment? When an animal has its teeth sunk into the flesh of a child, no parent (except maybe the most insane "dogs are God" types) is going to pause and ponder, "I should kick but only SO hard in case I injure the little guy!" Any parent is going to kick to dislodge that dog. Period. If those owners try to make out that it was OP's kick that somehow killed the dog, no judge or jury is going to say OP is responsible for any amount of force used to end an attack on her child.

Unlikely. Bad pet owners are unlikely to realize that they are bad pet owners and learn to be good pet owners. They'll continue to be bad pet owners and will blame all the problems on the victims (in this case, OP).

It was bad before, but since the pandemic, there has been a huge increase in the number of bad pet owners. People who shouldn't own pets had previously not owned pets, but a lot more of the got pets over the pandemic "for companionship" and it's exacerbated the problems.


The dog was on the porch on their property and ran off. This could happen to anyone.


Not anyone who appropriately handles their dog and follows the law.

People talk about large breeds but the nastiest dogs I've ever been around are some yappy little ones.


Small dogs are usually more aggressive but are also relatively harmless.

A large dog could easily kill a child. This small dog that OP even admits did very little damage.

I get that the situation was scary but I do think OP overacted. A good washing and some hydrogen peroxide would have saved them a lot of money.

People don’t like to hear it but smaller dogs are just not dangerous. Even the mean ones. It sounds like this dog put it’s all to the attack and still DD didn’t even need stitches? So why does it need to be put down? She could have gotten hurt worse had she just tripped over her own two feet and skinned her knee.

OP, I assume she’s your oldest. Take it from an experienced parents. Little incidences like this will happen often. Scraped knees, hurt feelings, but bites, mean dogs. It’s hard to see our kids hurt but be mindful not to overreact. Your reaction probably scared her more than the little crusty dog.



Doctor here. This is not true. Dog bites warrant medical attention and abx treatment.

Oh wow, I’m so happy that your daughter is doing well, but the dog dying while in quarantine is a messy situation. The neighbors are angry with you because they can’t reconcile that they are responsible for their own dog’s death. Surely there must be some other neighbors who can see the truth.


They are not responsible for the dogs death. This sounds like a pure accident. It’s tragic the dog was abused or neglect to the point of death.
