The more I hear of cases or situations like this for women the more it shocks and surprises me because how I've normally always been accustomed to cases like this being male-dominated.

I have no explanation and I have wondered what is going on in her head for years. She is Ivy League educated, great athlete, lots of friends, great family, well traveled, interesting career, and attractive. Are men intimidated by her? Are her standards too high? Or does she simply have no idea how to date? I am mystified by it.
I have a friend like this (late 30s) and I have long thought that she was not interested in men, but is not honest with herself and so would rather be alone than explore dating women.
This is one of my sils. It was pretty obvious from her 20s. She’s almost 60 now and had always hated men and hated any man who tried to talk to her.
She never had a boyfriend? I doubt that
I had a friend like this in college; she didn't hate men, just wasn't attracted to anyone, pretty much asexual. The idea of even kissing anyone grossed her out. It happens.

My godmother was a mystery writer and some of her published magazine pieces were picked up and turned into tv episodes in the early 1960s. She then went on to become an English professor. One of her sisters died young while the other worked on Wall Street. There is/was no obvious reason for this and they seem content to have not been married.

Untrue. There are many very pretty single women.
They must still be in their 20s.
A "very pretty" woman would be fending off suitors. There are always exceptions, but in 95% of the cases, a really pretty woman would be scooped up real quick.
There are plenty of gorgeous African American women that are single.
Those are racist African American women who will only date black men.
Black male population statistics aren’t in favor of these women finding suitable mates within their community and they need to come to terms with that or settle or date outside their race.
African American woman are in a tough position to be honest. While it is true that more and more women are graduating colleges compared to men, for African American woman it is worse. And let’s be honest women are very picky (for good reasons). You will not come accross many women who are college grads and will settle for a non college grad. So African American woman don’t have a big pool of fellow African American men college grads. So some choose to remain single.
As an educated latina woman with a good physique I feel the same. Some of us latinas with advanced degrees have a hard time finding a latino man whose college educated and is attractive.
I think regardless of race this will be more and more the case. It is interesting that women will not settle for a man who is less educated but men will do the same. Unless women come to grip that they may have to settle for non college grads or men who aren’t as successful as them they will struggle to find that ideal guy. I have introduced a very good friend of mine to my sister who who is a successful banker. My friend is a painter but otherwise fantastic man. OMG she gave me a whole lecture about how intellectually inferior he is etc….The more she went on I started to ask myself whether she is crazy.

This is my sister. She’s in her 40s. Spends her weekends with our parents or her paired up high school friends. I think she’s given up and pretty much went back to being out parents’ little girl and is comfortable with that. It’s her life and choice but in the long run I don’t know what she’s going to do. I think she’s just very used to friends and family constantly accommodating her.
You sound horrible.
It was horrible to watch our parents encourage this for years. Sometimes this situation comes about because of the woman’s family. The parents like bring frozen in time. It’s toxic. I can’t imagine as a parent promoting this situation. They even discouraged her from moving to a new city.
This is my ils. My mil is a malignant narcissist and never wanted any of her kids to grow up. She would tell everyone this. She is the most controlling person I’ve ever met and when any of her 5 kids dated she would be very angry about it and she hated whomever he kid was with. Initially only the 2 black sheep in the family dated and married. They all were taught sex was evil and horrible. When dh, the golden child, married and had children she turned into one of the worst human beings in the planet. Two sisters have never married and well in to their 40s had never had a serious relationship.
