And hotcakes! The big breakfast was the best[/quote]

They still have the big breakfast.

My grandmother would take me to one as a kid where she lived in Brooklyn and I’d get belly lox on a bialy and she’d get a tongue sandwich (never tried it but I’ll admit it smelled good). We would then split a black and white cookie down the middle. I liked vanilla and she liked chocolate so it was perfect. A lot of them have closed as tastes have changed and younger generations don’t want to take them over. Who’s eating tongue, borscht, matzo ball soup, derma, stuffed cabbages, kugel etc anymore.

Jews eat these things still of course. There aren’t good delis in the DC area but they’re alive and well in NYC.

NP. If you're actually in the DC area, you can both get most or all of these things at Parkway Deli and/or Snider's (Jewish grocery store) near Downtown Silver Spring. Kosher Pastry Oven Restaurant in Wheaton? And I'd guess at Attman's or Ize's in Potomac/Rockville, but I haven't been. Don't know about DC or NOVA but I'm sure there's some.

Also Celebrity Delly in Falls Church although they don't do the bowl of pickles on the table the way they did 20 years ago.

Does anyone make a chocolate loaf cake anymore - so like a pound cake though all chocolate without icing on top and not as obviously buttery tasting as pound cake. Multiple people have mentioned no more entennmans chocolate loaf or Starbucks chocolate bread?

Starbucks had a chocolate cinnamon bread for a few yrs - seasonally available in the fall. Haven’t seen it in years prob as all fall things now have to be pumpkin.

Pepperidge Farms had these little pumpernickel snack sticks. They were so satisfyingly strong flavored.

I loved the snack sticks. So good.

Chi Chi’s restaurant salsa. Spicy and fresh and heavy on the tomatoes. And no, the bottled salsa sold in grocery stores is t at all similar.

Also ginger ale in green glass bottles - Schweppes maybe? that was made with real sugar and real ginger. A real treat when when grandparents served it to me while staying with them over summer vacations.
Always decanted into a tiny juice glass and so strong that it would have a pleasant kick. I still drink ginger ale but now only ginger beer can replicate the ginger heat.

I buy the ginger ale in the green glass bottles all the time. It’s my favorite.

I loved the year that Starbucks had the Maple Macchiato and the maple muffins. They were so good and then never came back again.
