“Politically, we have had a very difficult time getting officers reengaged because of the rhetoric,” said Captain Brian Dillman said, pointing specifically to the death of George Floyd.

So you did paraphrase. That doesn’t say they are participating in a work stoppage. It simply says they are affected by being beat down by politicians.
I see you didn’t post this part:
“ Dillman also noted that the force is down 127 officers while the number of calls received has increased.
Montgomery County police patrol 507 square miles and more than 1.1 million residents”

Nice try. I just appreciate people who step up, run a hard-fought campaign, and actually CARE about social justice.
I do, too. That’s not what I see, though. I’m afraid she’s going to join Jawando in attacking our police. We have hard-working men and women in MCPD who show up daily and serve this community with respect and integrity. They don’t deserve the absolute disdain that comes their way from the county. They DO deserve to feel supported in their job.
With rising crime and a diminishing police force, I want to know what she’s going to do to help. She’s on the Public Safety Committee. These problems are hers to solve. What will she do to make this county more attractive to police recruits after years of being vilified by this council?
Public safety affects ALL of us.
Maybe the hard-working men and women in MCPD could start by saying that the FOP doesn't speak for them? And yes, while there are hard-working men and women in MCPD who show up daily and serve this community with respect and integrity, there are also unfortunately police officers in MCPD who don't.

Why would you trust a police force that dropped to traffic enforcement efforts by two thirds because of "everything that's going on" and now claims to be understaffed? You are a gullible bunch, aren't you.
They don’t CLAIM to be understaffed. They ARE understaffed.

They don’t refuse to do traffic enforcement. They are being discouraged to! Heck, that’s one of the things the council wants: police no longer enforcing traffic.
I am not gullible. My eyes are WIDE open.
Specifically, more automated traffic enforcement, fewer police traffic stops.
Police said their officers are refusing to conduct traffic stops. This is a work stoppage. Open your eyes.
Specific quote, please. I’d love to see what was actually said.

So the “bad apple” argument. Let’s vilify all of them because there’s a chance one of them is bad. That’ll help solve Montgomery County’s issues!
