We used Diana Dahlgren in Fairfax (recommended by several on this board). She is fantastic. Good luck!

Can anyone recommend a psychologist doing the WISC?

Those 400 appealers include kids in grades 2-7, not just second graders. No way the committee is going to check back with all of those schools. In fact, the committee's own rules state that the GBRS is the ONLY vehicle by which county employees are permitted to give input on your child. Have no worries.

9:37 get real. you know your kid will get in with those profound scores. do you really need our support? For 8:09, I think it is HIGHLY HIGHLY unlikely that the appeals committee would have the time or inclination to check back with the teachers. They would have to do that with all the appeals (I heard the about 6% of applicants, or about 400, kids appeal each year). So, unless your child's teacher tries to contact the committee, I think you should be okay. And maybe I'm naive, but I can't believe that any communication between the teacher and appeals committee on this would not be in writing, something you would be entitled to see.

Hi 8:09 with a GBRS of 12 I think all you need to have is some test scores that show he is in the gifted range and you should have a fairly easy appeal.

I don't know for sure, but with having to get back the decisions in a two to three week time period it would seem verly unlikely that they would have time to contact each child's teacher personally. They already have the teachers opinion in the GBRS and I think they are looking for some new information.I Also don't see how a teacher's opinion could change that much in one months time.We got our letters at the end of April and appeals are due June 1. I don't see a teacher changing his/her opinion in that amount of time.

PP: I do not know the answer to your question, but I find it refreshing to see that someones child may not be perfect.

Hi everyone,

This is tough but I wish everyone the best of luck.

Does anything think that the appeals committee checks back with the school to see how the child is doing before making its decision? After being really supportive all year, suddenly his teacher is saying that DC is performing at grade level even though the Woodcock test shows he's performing at 5th grade level in reading and 4th grade level in math.

I'm puzzled as to why she is suddenly retreating on her support of him. His GBRS was 12, but I get the feeling she has too many kids to continue being interested in him.

Or maybe DC is being a dork...

Thank you for any input!
