GT requires a strong commitment from the Parents for the child to be successful. They are just letting you know that if you can put your child's education first, it can be difficult!

My DD did not get it. I need help in deciding if we should appeal or not. Since we are not able to get much information from the AART teacher at DD school.
We moved to fairfax county in Jan. My DD teacher told us to do the parent refferal in Feb, coz she thinks DD is a GT candidate. DD COGAT comp score was 135. There was no NNAT conducted. DD gets all O's in the school. Her reading level is 34.
I know for sure her GBRS is above 12. Thanks...

Our letter states "parents and student.'" Check your letter in case you missed it but maybe each school is different?

Does anybody know whether we should bring the kids to the AAP orientation or not?

From my understanding, you can't prep for this. I don't work with children but have a slight background in assessment with adults so am interested in how innate talents, abilities, etc. are determined. There is a knowledge component (I believe) like "what is a mime" -- just making that word up. So, theoretically, you could go through a huge list of words to "teach" them but that is not realistic and it is not what the test is. They already know things or don't, know how to make connections or don't, have a strong ability to reason. None of these things can you teach/study for like knowledge based tests for the SAT or GRE. Just relax and let you child think this is fun. You should not try to "beat" this; you should really want to know what his/her innate abilities are. Probably not what you want to hear but remember that there are something like seven different types of intelligence -- can't study for these.

Don't think you need to have high GBRS to get accepted. DD's school is very strict about GBRS.

I would call AAP office Monday. I would think that all letters, regardless of acceptance status were mailed together. We only got ours yesterday, but I would imagine it is about 1 day, 2-days max anywhere in FCPS. The only letter I received was from the AAP office, no correspondence from the school,though I understand some schools also notified.
