Its two miles away from CVHS. That's much closer to CVHS than every other part of Bull Run that is staying at CVHS.

You know I appreciate that Westfield parents haven't been at every meeting for the past year complaining. They seemed fine to take any regular mix of kids, and only became unhappy when the projected enrollment dipped well below every previous estimate. I think that behavior is reasonable.

Why would they do that when they can walk through neighborhoods behind the library?

I think its not a designated walk zone hence why it was up for grabs to move, but the fact that it IS walkable to Chantilly means the low income kids who live there with transportation issues can still get themselves to school if they miss the bus, or stay after school for sports and get themselves home, etc.

I don't know, I don't live there, that's why I'm asking. I do live nearby and truthfully it seems logistically difficult and too far away for walkers.

Every previous map besides the last "final" map left westfield with enough kids, so presumably that's why you haven't been hearing parents from there (that and, half the current parents are being moved to Skyview). i'm sure they were shocked that the "final" boundary solution left them with hundreds fewer kids than every previous suggested map.

I don't agree that overcrowding at CVHS was truly a "main reason" why FCPS bought KAA.

The main reasons why Skyview were purchased were (1) a long-standing promise to give Floris/Oak Hill its own high school, which had been reflected in the CIP for many years; (2) what the School Board viewed as a unique opportunity or bargain purchase to acquire an existing school; and (3) overcrowding at Chantilly.

Overcrowding at CVHS was abating and there was already a plan to renovate and expand the school. Citing overcrowding at CVHS and Westfield (which has trailers but is technically under capacity) were more in the nature of made-up justifications, about as important in the scheme of things as the statements that buying KAA would allow for some Oakton kids to have shorter commutes (which we all know has now gone by the wayside).

Pretty sure there is bus service. However, it is walkable. There is a service road to Brookfield community and there are back ways to Chantilly behind the library.
The point is that they are able to participate in after school activities. They can walk, if needed. Westfield is too far to walk and this will encourage truancy.

Not really. Chantilly is moving 333 kids to Skyview and another 309 to Westfield. 639 kids. Time for Centreville to contribute something more than 77 kids, especially since the final scenario has it still at 104% capacity. Then, we can kill two birds with one stone and scale back this massive renovation/misuse of taxpayer dollars there while we are at it.

If you are so concerned about a misuse of taxpayer dollars, kill off Skyview. Otherwise shrinking a school that is already much smaller than its neighbors is about as dumb as it gets.

I think it makes sense for school enrollments to match the building size. Not really a radical idea.

Centreville is below the 105% capacity that FCPS treated as a threshold for possible adjustments in the county-wide review. I say "possible adjustments" because they left at least one high school over 105% untouched.

Also, CVHS's renovation and expansion has been in the CIP for years. They can take another look at the scope, but CVHS deserves to have a building capacity in line with other schools. Not really a radical idea.

A 2000 student building capacity is completely in the normal range for FCPS HS. There is nothing unusual about it whatsoever.

Here's Sully complaining that CVHS has "hundreds" more students than it was built for and that they are many years away from any new building. I guess she would support sending some of those kids over to the empty seats at Westfield.

BS. Centreville currently is at the bottom or near bottom of capacities for FCPS high schools. You're entitled to your own opinions, but not your own facts.

NP-If they are leaving 800 seats open at WF adjacent to Centreville, there is no need for a much larger school in that part of the county. No clue if 2000 is average but there are many schols in FCPS around that size.

A sensible school system would want detailed projections on how many students their new affordable housing project / redevelopment is going to yield before making a final decision on whether to expand Centreville and if so, by how many seats. Its clear there is absolutely no need for seats today in 2026 given all the extra space in the area.

At present, Centreville has the lowest program capacity of any high school in the county, excluding temporary structures. It's in an area slated for future growth, and nearby areas instead are part of an attendance island that goes to Fairfax. Expanding CVHS during its upcoming renovation would be sound planning for the future, regardless of any short-term declines in enrollment in FCPS.

They actually will be directing Reid to come back by the end of August with a recommendation as to how to proceed with the renovation and whether scope modifications are warranted. But it would be short-sighted to shelve any expansion at all.

Incorrect. According to the Skyview map, Lewis is lower, and McLean is the same. I didn't click through every school. Where are you getting your facts?

My apologies. Source is the latest CIP. Lewis is indeed lower, and McLean is higher, not the same. Falls Church is also listed as lower but it's about to finish an expansion to increase its design and program capacity to around 2500.

Maybe more people will sign up for the public hearing in July.

As people have pointed out on here, its difficult to stand up and say other people's kids need to be moved to your school. Westfield parents posted on here that they were at the last meeting after the map came out gutting their school numbers.
