What makes you think firefighters and law enforcement don’t also have other deferred compensation plans over and above their pensions?

DP to add, every single Republican/MAGA I know believes in "small government" and "cutting taxes" yet also works for the government where they get their padded retirement pension checks paid for by our taxes. Kinda fascinating.

This is absolutely 100 percent true for me as well. It’s just nuts.

Police and firefighters risk their lives and get a pension in return. You are welcome to join, put on turnout gear, or a bulletproof vest, and earn a pension.

My Uncle who was a NYC Police and my other Uncle a NYC Garbage man both did 40 years on the force and retired with 100 percent income for life with spouse included after death. Unwritten rule all OT goes first to person in last year before retirment so it pads pension as based off last years earnings.

My Uncle the Police Captain retired in 1991 with a $100,000 a years pension for life. They union claimed since he had skin cancer was related to years as beat cop so was tax free.

I cant imagine how much 100K a year tax free inflation adjusted from 1991 is in todays dollars. It is a of of money!! He had

I believe they are exploring the use of civilian admin staff to relieve some of the pressure created by low officer staffing levels.

Every time you see a thread on DCUM about AI taking people’s jobs remember that won’t happen to law enforcement officers.

You are likely restricted from using it other than to and from work and you probably can't install a car seat in it so don't plan on doing pick up or drop off on the way to work. You have to find a place to park it and you may need a second car since you can only use the car for to/from work (i.e. two kids in different activities). Maybe the take home car is optional though.

There is no world in which a take home police cruiser is a burden. My friend is a State Trooper. He bought a Range Rover Sport last year and he’s only put about 4,000 miles on it. That he doesn’t have to drive it to the station and back all the time will extend the life of the Range Rover years. It will keep the trade in value higher as well.

Considering all they do is tell people “ma’am that noise was fireworks” all day that’s great!

Just for you Ms. Fireworks.

Law enforcement and nursing are the new CS until wall street and private equity find a way to depress wages in those sectors as well. And if you think law enforcement can't be automated you have no idea how much software can do.

How does Wall Street and PE depress town, city, county and state payrolls?

How does someone automate 24/7/365 patrol duties?

Similar to private prisons - the state/counties/towns will just pay a 3rd party contractor (owned by PE) to run the police force.

That’s not how local, county and state governments work. There is no chance this happens to law enforcement.
