2) because some items are not stocked at regular grocery stores. I was able to find items from my home country at TJ Maxx and I can assure you that no other grocery store stocks these items.

Bob Appetit magazine looked into this. The food is fine and vendors like selling to TJ Maxx bc they pay their bills on time.

If I get a brand I know and trust, it is fine. I rarely buy food from there, but the times I have, it has been fine.

I stock our office snacks area with nuts and unsweetened dried fruit from there. There is a lot of added sugar in many things, but you can find others.

Is it also more classy to shop for higher prices when you're buying a new car? How high should I shoot if I want to be, say, on the lower end of UMC? Is 20% more enough?

These stores are no longer closeouts -they are moving vast amounts of product weekly and while yes, you may get something stale or out of date, the vast majority is made for the stores. I buy chocolate covered graham crackers there - the exact same brand is sold under private/inhouse label Trader Joes. I buy dried fruit, nuts, coffee, sweets. They do often have cute wrapped/labeled candies/cookies for major holidays and I'll sometimes pick them up for an easter basket or Christmas stocking or whatever.
