My DS (6) LOVED it. He really "drank the Koolaid" about it being child-directed and different, and therefore cooler than other camps. I was surprised because in other settings, he really hasn't done well in unstructured environments. But I think the key is that Steve and Kates provides structure while allowing kids to chose their activities, and not "interfering" in the activities, if that makes sense. And the activities are pretty fun. Based on some conversations I overheard, the Van Ness site was somewhat more crowded than the staff considers ideal, but I never felt like that impacted my kid. The ONLY critique I have is that I wish they provided a tiny bit more direct instruction in how to do some of the activities, because my DS actually learns best with some direct instruction as opposed to just figuring it all out himself. But that's a very small gripe overall.
