In mine. I doubt he looked me up so it’s probably that our phones are active at the same time near each other.

But also yes, you have mutual friends or she’s been peeping on you too. Everyone does it.

My lawn guy also shows up as people I may know. Until this thread, I didn’t know it was based partly on proximity. I just figured it was email/phone contacts and mutual friends.

An ex boyfriend looked at my LinkedIn profile and his new wife started showing up in my people you might know on Facebook even though we are not otherwise linked. Weird.

+1 I’ve never allowed Facebook to do this but clearly other people I email have, because my tenants show up as people I may know and there’s no other connection.

Firstly, it can contribute to a loss of productivity and time as users may get absorbed in scrolling through the endless feed of content. Moreover, the platform is designed to be addictive, encouraging prolonged usage.

Concerns about privacy and data security have also arisen, as Facebook has faced controversies related to the mishandling of user data. The platform's algorithms can create echo chambers, reinforcing existing beliefs and limiting exposure to diverse perspectives.

Lastly, excessive use of social media, including Facebook, has been linked to negative mental health outcomes, such as anxiety and depression. It's essential for users to be mindful of their online habits and consider the potential impacts on their well-being.

You've highlighted several valid concerns about Facebook, including its impact on productivity, addictive design, privacy issues, potential for creating echo chambers, and effects on mental health.

Being aware of these aspects and using social media mindfully is indeed crucial for a balanced online experience.

My clients often show up. Folks that I don’t think are searching for me. It’s phone proximity and multiple visit location. You could use the same dry cleaner or have similar Ubereats orders.

It could be searches off Facebook. Like you both looked the same Yelp review, or looked up movie times, plus you each have a friend in common or she’s in a group your friend is in. It’s weird stuff.

My "people you may know" have included exes and other random people from my past because they were in my phone or email contacts. Also anyone with mutual friends and people who have checked into the same places.

That’s not necessarily true. I have seen plenty of people as “suggested” friends based on mutual acquaintances when I am confident neither of us searched for the other.

You searched for her profile, obviously.

It definitely does not have to mean that they've looked at your profile.

I keep getting 'People You May Know' for a young neighbor who passed away a few months ago in an accident. I wish it would stop.

You have friends in common. You would be surprised how personal networks intersect.

Where in the world did you get this idea?

I literally have zero fb friends and I never/have never looked anyone or anything up on fb. The people you may know tab has easily 1,000 people listed. Scrolling through it, I see people who have the same last name as people in the 2 groups I belong to. I see people who are in similar types of groups to the 2 groups I'm in. I see no one I actually know irl. My fb name is a pseudonym and my profile picture is nondescript. My page has never been updated. Why am I on fb?
