Yeah, lot of people moving from McLean, FC City, and N. Arlington to Burke to avoid pool waitlists.

I agree. I am on a club board and our total membership capacity allowed by the county is 400, although if we ever got close to 300 I think we would stop new memberships at that point. We are currently around 230.

Where are you located? Is there another nearby that doesn’t have a waitlist? We’ve been members of ours for 17 years and during that time there has never been anywhere close to a waitlist. We use it a lot and never once had to wait outside to get in either due to capacity.

I'm in NWDC but put my name down at two pools in MoCo because the pool we were supposed to be getting in our neighborhood was canceled. If the pace continues it will be 8 years until the pool we actually want has space, but the backup might be the year after next? Sigh.

Are you in Takoma, just come to Daleview...they now have space.

Ours said 5-7 years and it was “only” 3. Of course we ended up moving out of the area soon after making it off the list.

10 years for PGP.

Although to be fair, we could've gotten a one summer only membership a couple years before we got the full offer. So probably could've started using the pool after maybe 8 years?

Exactly. And if you want a top tier team, OKM, Hunt Valley, Fair Oaks, Fox Hunt, Crosspointe, LRR, and Hiddenbrook don’t have waitlists (but several of these have boundary or HOA-only restrictions).

The issue with pools like Overlee is that you can transfer your membership with the sale of your home which allows people who just move into the are to "jump" the waitlist.

(I was unmarried when I joined the waitlist, never added my then-boyfriend to the listing, and months before I got my membership offer I was served divorce papers. So on the bright side I didn’t have to give up the membership?)

Can anyone top that?

Was it Cardinal Hill? We sold the house and moved away and got a 'congratulations' email eight years later. Did we still want the membership?

It was said in Katie Ledecky’s memoir… imagine if Katie waited a few more years to get in the fun summer swimming, we may have missed a legend … that would be crazy, some pools just a little too upper class, really don’t have to be that way… why not just take more families in… it’s ridiculous for any family to wait for a pool membership for years

It’s not about pools being too upper class it’s about capacity limits. We could offer more memberships but then members would throw a fit if the facility was at capacity and they weren’t allowed in.

Cardinal Hill in Vienna says it’s 8+ years for a summer lease and 10+ for a membership.

Little Falls is always talking about what could have been with Katie.
