For foodies, definitely spend a few hours around Borough Market, especially Neals Yard Dairy, where they are so knowledgeable about British cheese and will let you sample any. As well as the market, there are plenty of places, and cuisines, in that area.

If you want to try "traditional" (but updated and good) London food, Simpson's in the Strand has just reopened, and its upstairs (and cheaper) offshoot, Romano's, has had great reviews.

London is the worst for food. I worked there for years and ate in jw marriot grovsner house restaurant pretty much all the time. Like 200 pounds a meal for one but the best I could find.

London has the best food scene of any big cities.
