If your roof/gutters were not installed using a drip edge, that's a huge problem. I have no idea how big your roof is or the scope of this job but that seems like a really LOW prive for that work.

Or, ya know, just watch a YouTube video and do it yourself. I'm serious.

Yes, it seems they have reading comprehension problems. The OP even has a video related to fixing leaking gutters that involves placing flashing under the roof shingles, but there are pages of discussion on gutter cleaning. The quotes could be reasonable depending on the details and size of the job.

Ask your landscaper/lawn mower company to do it. Ours does it for $50.

Who do you use?

We just had our gutters cleaned, back addition siding and deck power washed, and all windows cleaned (inside and out). This included screens and window sills. It cost $1100. Used I&J Window Services.

That sounds pretty reasonable, thanks. I'd love to outsource that, but my husband is cheap and wants to do it all himself. One day he will fall off our very steep roof.

My son's teacher witnessed his father fall off a ladder cleaning the gutters on their family home and die. He still is traumatized by the memory.

I don't understand how the quotes could be so wildly different. I need to refinish some siding at the back of my house. Tiny area, maybe 20x20? First quote is $7000, second quote is $3500, third quote is $1600, all including clean, sand, prime, and coat twice with Benjamin Moore Woodluxe. They all have 5 star google reviews.

It’s because they don’t quote each job as if they can move seamlessly from one to another. You may be thinking in terms of square feet, but the business has to translate that into trucks, guys, days or half days and how he can optimize their time. The high quote guy may just be trying to gouge you, I guess, but it’s more likely just that he has a number he thinks he can get for that crew and a number he needs to get for that crew. He needs to quote a certain number of that needs to get number to avoid having them sit idle. So it’s probably about that and not about you. The cheaper guy maybe has a smaller crew and a smaller number and he’s trying to win more small jobs.

They are making up for lost time on a bigger job. The pricing is like that bc they don't want to do it.

We live in McLean, 4K sq ft home. It's $250 to have our gutters cleaned and three skylights washed/cleaned.

Lawn crew used to do cleaning for $250 but couldn't deal with their rickety ladders and random roof scrambling.

Who do you use for the gutter cleaning/roof inspection? We have Ned Stevens come out for gutter cleaning a few times per year but not sure they'd do the roof stuff.

All of this.

It always amazes me when people from this area have zero skills and no willingness to do hard, skilled or dirty work themselves, complain about the price quoted by the people willing or skilled enough to do the hard labor or skilled job.

You see this on everything from plumbing to clothing alterations.

My husband has been cleaning our home's gutters ever since we bought the house. I want him to stop. It's too dangerous, the upstairs gutter is really way too high. I'd like to pay for a gutter guard instead, and then hire people to maintain it every few years.

Seriously, I’d rather pay for a gutter guard than pay 4 figures every year for a cleaning.

Be careful what you wish for. We had to have gutter guards removed because the overflow was splashing hard onto our deck instead of going into the gutters and down the drain.
