I feel like boys don’t even do nicknames anymore. My 8 year old talks about Joseph, Michael and Edward at school. Like a Thomas the Train lineup.

High school is coming!

Patrick is a very normal name in Scotland. Patrick Henry of “Give me liberty or give me death” had a Scottish father. My Patrick has five younger siblings so everyone assumes he is Irish Catholic, which is actually helpful to him in his chosen profession.

I would assume youre Catholic. So just know that will be people’s assumption if you care. Nicknames arent great for a young child. Pat or Paddy.
Or Fat Pat 😕
In my Catholic school, we had 2 teachers named Sister Pat. We called them Fat Pat and Skinny Pat.

I know a tween Patrick and an adult Patrick.

Both are always Patrick and are lovely people.

I like it.

I find this point of view surprising. There’s definitely an association for me, but it feels like a mainstream name anyone can use.

Weird if you’re not Irish Catholic, nice if you are.

Love it. It was my late DH's name.

I would have never made assumptions and I know 3-4 Patricks.

Teacher here. Haven’t taught a Patrick for a while. Traditional but not super common, unless you move in Catholic circles, it sounds like.

I know only one Patrick and nobody calls him Pat.

Paddy is not ok outside of an Irish-influenced community. It's a movie character name.

Rick sounds good as a nn.

The Hispanic boys are all Mateo.

Ha, this reminds me of when I was in a seven student Latin class in college and four of the seven were named Paul.
