My parents bought their house in 1995 and sold it in 2015 with the same Whirlpool dishwasher. We got an LG one in 2022 and it died this week. Everything is made poorly now.

We bought our kitchenaide 13 years ago. The washer works great. The rack quality is a different story. The cheap plastic wheels continuously break. Other than that, we have been satisfied.

I shudder at the idea of buying a replacement dishwasher. The past 5 years there were so many environmental requirements added to appliances. As a result, the quality of things like dishwashers is now crap and turned what should be a 15-20 year purchase into the appliance verson of temu fast fashion, wear once and throw away.

Enhanced environmental standards are pointless when turns what should be a 15 to 20 year purchase into crap products that end up in a landfill after 3-5 years because they are cheaper to replace than to repair.

Well, Whirlpool, Maytag, and KitchenAid are all Whirlpool brands, so if you go that route, just pick the one that has all of the features you want and don't worry about the brand.

People I know tend to love or hate their Bosch's. There is no in between - half the people I know that have had them HATED them, the other half love them. The appliance repairman we have used for a couple things has told us he owns a Whirlpool dishwasher and that's what he would buy again. He says the most expensive to repair is Bosch. He won't repair Samsung or LG appliances.

That depends on how long you want/expect your dishwasher to last -- hence the observation/question.

I’ve had 2 Bosch in about 15 years. Not great. It’s funny, when I peruse houses, I will see dishwashers that are clearly decades old.

Seems like nothing is made well anymore

My Samsung is 12 year old and still going strong. I know people don’t recommend them though.

Are you sure a new motor is $500? Have you looked on eBay? We buy a lot of parts there.

+1 On year 8 and works like it did on day one, and we didn't go with the most expensive model or anything. The only thing I regret was not paying for the next trim level up so that the buttons were on the top of the door -- we can't wash anything while my 16 month old is awake!

Google whether it has a panel lockout feature that you activate by pressing buttons. My 25 year old Whirlpool had that on a rather primitive digital control panel.

Just don't download manuals from sketchy sites. Google for instructions.

After our 3rd GE, sales clerk said seems like you have problems with GE, lol. True. KitchenAid is great, no issues in 5 years so far.

I've got a Kitchen-Aid, it's 4 years old and works like it did when it was brand new.

Our Bosch is 8+ years old. No issues. No service. Reliable. Not the most expensive model.
