There are elsewhere though- much of SW VA south to FL are under tornado and/or severe thunderstorm watch. And a lot of the NE, including the DelMarVa peninsula, is under a wind advisory. Is this event just being overhyped for the DC area?
CWG explained it well. There will be the ingredients for severe weather but having all the ingredients doesn't necessarily mean anything will happen. But with the kids and such it's better to be cautious.
