This. It wasn’t a safe idea before this either. Just like crib bumpers and BPA weren’t safe long before the word got out to the masses.

Do you think the USA is a haven of safety? Kids get shot at school daily.

Statistically not true. Per cap rates of violent crime vs American tourists were extremely low relatively speaking.

More dangerous to visit any number of US locations than Mexico per the stats.

That said, I wouldn’t go now.

Ritz Carlton Dove Mountain
JW Marriott Starr Pass
Westin La Paloma

Just some nice hotels in Arizona with water slides/lazy rivers

Tucson is amazing! It should be in the 80s for spring break and lots of good hiking, Mexican restaurants, beautiful resorts.

Well, you can say that, but the fact is millions of Americans vacation and travel to Mexico every year. Apparently 36.8 million Americans went in 2025. For the most part, these trips happen with zero issue.

Mexico has worked really hard to protect its tourism industry- from working on food safety, to spraying for mosquitoes, to providing exceptional service, delicious food, culture and yes a sense of safety even.

Many Americans go for long weekends just to unwind and even own second homes there. It’s the “Florida” for those of us who live on the west coast.

I suspect things will quiet down and tourism will resume. It’s in the best interest of both the cartels (who own most of the hotels) and the government.

I'm not cancelling anything yet. Cancun airport is already back to normal. I'm not staying in Cancun but flying into there.

I posted this in the Fairmont Mayakoba post but do those trying to pivot, check Redweek. Search your destination or just search "Florida" or “California” and put in your dates. It's a timeshare rental site. If you are looking at the week leading up to Easter, you can get a 3BR at the Marriott Vacation Club in Marco Island with a full kitchen and 3BA for $1420/night. You can get a 2BR, 2BA villa at Marriott Ocean Point in Palm Beach Shores for $664/night! They aren't as nice as a Ritz but they sure beat not going anywhere. Plus there's lots of space, full kitchens and washer/dryers. There’s a Marriott Vacation Club in St. Thomas so you can check that on Redweek as well.

Because it is warm and there are resorts there. Do try to keep up.
