They sent an email today saying "nearly 650 students" have signed up. That's not 700.


We heard 700 on Tuesday night.

What makes you think they won't get grandfathered into Langley? There is a sizeable number of kids who transfer from Westfield to Langley using the Russian loophole.


Freshman won’t be grandfathered in.

I don't read PP's post as necessarily suggesting the kids who've already placed into Langley from Herndon for language won't be allowed to continue. But FCPS has clearly stated it's not accepting new student transfer requests for foreign language.

In Herndon's case, the number of students transferring into Langley, presumably for a foreign language (fewer than 10 this year) is much smaller than the number transferring into South Lakes, presumably for IB (158). The question, going forward, is how opening Skyview may affect transfers among Herndon, South Lakes, and Skyview.

You should FOIA the information and share it here. They have to have been tracking that information so it shouldn't be an expensive request to address.

I to admit they couldn’t fill their classes with kids from the schools they were saying were overcrowded.


Gee. Just imagine that when kids find out others are not opting in because of the uncertainty, some decide just maybe this is not a good idea.

Parents realizing that they may have to do kiss and ride on a daily basis. They likely live close and assumed they would be in boundary, but now are realizing that this just may not work.

Whoever thought that opening a school before you set boundaries would work? Did anyone on staff challenge this with Reid? Who is making decisions? Who does she listen to?

No I am not talking about that. I’m talking about students removed from class at Thoreau with no parental notification to be given a sales pitch about Skyview.

They are probably at Thoreau for Oakton zoned kids but there are also Marshall zoned kids who live very close to Crossfield neighborhoods on Fox Mill rd.

They had meetings with the 8th graders at Hughes, it feeds South Lakes. So they are having the conversations with the kids who could attend one of the 5 HS. It sounds like those are continuing.
