Whatever chain of events and miscommunications led to a group of children and their teacher to flee from safety into where the danger actually was…needs to be investigated so that this never happen again.
MCPS needs to learn from this.
I’d be thanking that teacher for making the best decision with the information they had. Maybe those kids were outside aready so going back in was not an option. I’ve told my kids to hide and run or play dead if necessary. It’s sad we have to even have these talks with or kids.
They weren’t outside. They were in their classroom. Some Fallsmead classrooms have their own independent doors that lead outside, so the kids left using their classroom door.
Again, I am not blaming the teacher. I’m blaming the unclear communications and that MCPS isn’t addressing this and therefore won’t learn from this
Anonymous wrote:So, presumably they meant to call a shelter-in-place, not a lockdown, right? Did the school call the wrong one? Did MCPS? Or did the teacher misinterpret it?

I get the situation was crazy, and I’m not in any of those people’s shoes. I’m not trying to accuse anyone. But this shouldn’t be covered up…it should be learned from.
Clearly this wasn’t the right protocol…
It’s hard to say what is right as we weren’t in that situation. I’d want a teacher to give the kids the best chance possible and if it were safe to run, run.

Get used to it. Taylor is not gonna do better.
What is McKnight thinking right about now
