Vandy is fine but it is benefiting from Nashville being popular and trendy these days. Many kids apply to Vandy because Nashville seems fun and the big sports. The weather is also less frigid than the east coast and Midwest. Academics are tertiary.

It’s a fun school with very smart, well adjusted kids. Great infrastructure, including nice dorms and a lovely campus. Nashville is a cool town with lots to do.

Invest some time going through the curriculum. That’s what got our attention. Lots of emphasis on immersion and interdisciplinary study.

It’s a fine school but nothing overly impressive about it

Vanderbilt is a wonderful school. My student is beyond happy there. Excellent academics. Residential colleges are on fire they are so nice. Chancellor is a moderate who has navigated and promoted civil and civic, discourse. Diverse - my student is friends with people from all over the US and the world. Many great schools out there. You can be happy at them all. That’s our point of view.

My kid hates it. Super easy classes. Boring parties. Is transferring to W&M

Wow! Which classes are easy?

4 new campuses? Wow—That had not been on my radar. Hmmm, not sure how I feel about that

Deep blue city.

Doesn't really matter. Neanderthal laws enacted by the state are what matter. Good luck finding an OB/GYN in a few years.

The fact that you have to INVENT problems shows you have no authentic evidence against the state.

https://nashvillebanner.com/2026/01/08/gino-bulso-tennessee-general-assembly-lgbtqia-legislation/
"The first bill, HB 1472, is titled the “Banning Bostock Act,” and seeks to exclude sexual orientation, gender identity and abortion-related acts from the definition of sex-based discrimination, a direct challenge to the 2020 Bostock v. Clayton County decision, in which the U.S. Supreme Court deemed they were included in sex discrimination protections.

In another test of the high court, Bulso’s HB 1473, Bulso takes on Obergefell v. Hodges, the landmark 2015 ruling that granted same-sex couples the right to marry. The bill would build on a 2024 state law allowing public officials to refuse to perform marriages that go against their beliefs and the state’s previous language defining marriage as between one man and one woman, which was nullified by Obergefell.

“Private citizens and organizations are not bound by the Fourteenth Amendment or by the Supreme Court’s purported interpretation of the Fourteenth Amendment in Obergefell v. Hodges, 576 U.S. 644 (2015), and no private citizen or organization in this state is required to recognize a marriage or a purported marriage between individuals of the same sex, notwithstanding any other law,” the proposed bill reads.

The third bill, HB 1474, is titled the “No Pride Flag or Month Act” would ban pride flags, rainbow flags, the equality flag or “any object, image, or representation that uses the word ‘pride’ in a manner intended to convey support for or approval of lesbianism, homosexuality, bisexuality, transgenderism, gender non-conforming behavior, or individuals who engage in such conduct” on state property and would similarly prohibit any action that recognizes Pride month. Our daughters care rather a lot

And people who care about daughters and LGBTQ kids.

Stop with the performative virtue signaling.

Gotcha. Unable to think for yourself so use the Fox News catch phrases. Next post will call us "woke". Then tell us we love migrants and want them to kill us all. Then something about transsexual athletes. Then about how everything is Biden's fault. Then if I call you out on Trump being a racist jerk profiting off the presidency you will deflect that too and refuse to say a bad word about Das Fuhrer. You're all the same.

TL/DR: you're not smart enough to have a kid at Vandy so please leave this thread.

"Performative"?

Rights have been lost.

The current president of Vandy doing some damage to the brand, I agree. Also admissions is very donor friendly and the word is out.

Probably miserable. Very cliquey atmosphere, overwhelming majority of whites. Depends if your kid is into greek system and drinking. Huge drinking culture. Campus was fairly empty when we visited, it sort of felt like a commuter school but it was the weekend.
