I do it because I know people who are immigrants, and I want them to know I have their backs. I do it to show courage, because that’s what it takes to put yourself out there in resistance to the current administration. I do it to let everyone know where I stand, so they don’t mistake me as a fan of 47. I do it because what is happening unseen and yes, undocumented!, in ICE detention centers is stunningly close to German ghettos and concentration camps in the 1930s, and I’ve always judged harshly the Germans who did nothing.
And I do it, and show up at protests, to lessen the danger for the other people who are doing it. If you’re coming for that person, I’m standing up with them. That’s why my heroes as a middle aged white person, are a bunch of ordinary young people and dedicated politicians from the civil rights era of American history. It’s a marathon not a sprint.

Cannot imagine the privilege of remaining “apolitical” in this day and age..

I know. I am sooo privileged, and I recognize it, and not ashamed of it.

What do you think of people you know IRL who do? Do you mute them? Comment? Ignore? Block?
Anonymous wrote:I don’t make any political comments. I just don’t need the stress or the haters. It’s just not worth my time.
People are so mean nowadays. So many haters. Some are my so called friends on FB. Some are MAGA supporters some are ultra liberal.
I just don’t want to engage. Not worth it.

Seeing all the supposedly smart, educated people from my Ivy League school support pandemic-era overreach such as extended school closures when I knew they held different opinions IRL made me realize how fake and performative it is.

When I realized I didn’t follow my parents or husband anymore (they are on opposite extremes with their views) I decided it was time to delete SM altogether. I am so much happier not on it.
Ok you just watch this current S#!++ show from your vantage point and keep acting like nothing is happening. Keep it up.
This is 1938 Germany. Imagine if there was social media.
